Under 250w you'll be lucky to get an oz per plant, especially on your first grow.

2 oz

Bag seed won't yield like commercial strains.

Proper training, soil, and nutes will increase yeild.

hey man, there no way to quessing the yeild in veg but as a estimiate there alot youhave to ask.

size of your plant, nutes, healthy plant, correct lighting and exc.....

if u were to take a ques if everything goes good i would say dry weight abut 2 oz but it may be MORE or less.

with that said I WSH YOU LUCK ON YOUR GROW!!!!

Obviously with a 250 watt light u arent going to get super huge buds. You could maybe supplement with some cfl's for side lighting. Yeild varies from many factors. Like the others have said,Keep your plants nice and healthy give them lots of love and you'll love what they do in the end.

Have fun.

Im on my 2nd 250w hps grow now and i have 5 plants under the lamp and 3 of them are topped - im hoping for 4-5oz

My last one was just two plants under a 250w just like yourself and i got about an oz per plant - hope that helps.

Oh and the light i try to keep 5 to 6" away from the tops but it helps if you have an air cooled hood which i dont

Peace.

Are you growing in soil, or using hydro/aero techiques? If soil, whats the pot size and what soil mix did you use? What nutes are you giving them? How long are you going to veg them before flowering? Whats the temp and humidity range, and what light cycle are you using for vegging (24/0, 18/6, etc)? Are you going to top them, and if so, what technique are you going to use? All of these factors are going to effect the yield, so it's hard to make a guess with the information given so far.

Instead of worrying about yields you should be more worried about what your plant wants, if you treat the plant right by balancing all of the controlable variables properly the plant will reward you with higher yields

Light is just one of the factors and most folks don't have any idea how to balance it for the plant

I will say 2 plants instead of 5 is a much better way to go and the per plant yield will be higher as MJ wants space to thrive, (one of the variables you can control)

As to your question of how high, I would say between 1 and 2 feet above the canopy and would start with it at 18 inches, better would be to have a light meter and give the plant what it wants

A 250 watt HPS puts out a little over 20,000 lumens. That means it will cover a 2' x 3' (or 2.5' x 2.5') area and still give you over 3,000 lumens per square foot, which is above the accepted minimum for good plant growth. You could squeeze 4 smaller(2' or so, finished size)plants in that area and get a nice yield. If this is your first time, expect about 1/2 oz per plant, as long as you don't run into any major problems, and an oz or a little more if everything goes really well.

EDIT: I agree with riddleme, and suggest a light meter to get your light setup correctly. You can buy a cheap one on Ebay for like $30, and they work perfectly fine for setting up grow lights.(the ones they sell for photography are a little cheaper, if I'm not mistaken)

I got a question as well,
would a 400W HPS for one plant be over doing it?

Hell no, it's not too much. Set that thing close, but not close enough to heat stress it, and you'll have one kick-ass plant.

You could run a 1000 watts on one plant if you wanted.

alright thanks all +rep to all of you. i have another question i was growing with cfls in a closet. an standup closet. its 49inch in height. 18inch length and 16 inch deep is that too small for a 250 watt hps?

it might be a little small youll just have to make sure you vent it well and exchange the air in the closet as much as possible so heat doesnt build up and i keep my 400 watt about 17-18 inches off the tops of the plants so i would think you could get closer then that

you should check out the 250 watt club.. a ton of great info and plenty of good grows on there using a 250.. mindmelted just grew one apple jack plant under a 250 and got a lil under 19 ounces off of one plant.. so don't worry about all of these haters that say that you can't get good yeild off a 250, as its simply not true.. mind got over 2 grams per watt, which is friggin great.. mind you, it was not his first grow, but it just goes to show the potential of a lil ole 250.. check out his grow on here ... doobieous and minds growpaloza.. its here somewhere.. my man's got his sh*t together..
