I started this micro to replicate Dr. Bud from ICMAG. However instead of of cut off bottles I went with 16oz party cups under 283 watts of CFL'S. Lights consisted of 1 65w and 2x42w and 4x26w(2 of those were daylight to minimize stretching, worked very well)
Plants veged for about 2weeks from mature clones. Flowered at 8", and after 2 weeks of flowering I was amazed at the bud sites and the size of the buds:)
Plants are 100% organinc minus superthrive. On 02/07/09 I picked up a 150w hps:( worst idea.
It was cool at first, until the glass i used inbetween the plants and the reflector broke and fell on the plants. Major fuck up, was not expecting to come home after dinner to deal with that shit. Plants bent up, bud sites missing from being sliced off by the falling glass.
Then today after the mess was cleaned up now i have to deal with temps that are crazy compared to the cfls. I ran damn near double the watts 283w cfl compared to 150hps and I cant manage this thing.
I would of preffered staying with my cfls knowing that I would of pulled a qp, even if it took a week or two more than using hid.
Once I learn how to resize pics Ill get some before and after pics up(how to will be helpful)
FUUUUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

Wow man that sucks. I changed from about 200 watts CFL to a 150w hps and some CFL for 3 plants. and it works great. a lot easier

That sucks man. I've got about 489 watts of CFL's on two plants and I'm going to be getting a 150w hps very soon. I was assuming switching from that many CFL's to a 150w hps would lower my temps but now I'm paranoid. My closet gets to 85f on warmer days already. Out of curiosity what was your temps with the CFL's and then with the HPS?

Thanks guys.
To answer your question about the temps. As is with no changes to ventilation, the cab was running around 70 degrees with 283w cfl, after the installation of the 150hps(almost less than 1/2 the power of the cfls) the temps are 82-86 degrees. Ambient outside the cab is around 60 its still cold here.
My concern is summer time, I cant run this thing when the temps will be 80-95 here in FL.
I have to say it is alot easier to use and a lot less messy with out all those cables and sockets for the cfls. No more up down moving things around. Nice penetration and even canopy coverage. I got the sunsytem 150 for $77. Im going to enclose it with tempered glass and cut a hole in the top to hook a fan to exaust some hot air up and away from the canopy.

Sorry to read that, I would have hated to have that happen. Why not just stick with those CFL's? I've seen and smoked great results from CFL's in the past and its persuaded me to have a go with them. In skilled hands I have no doubt that its every bit as good as HPS grown buds. Yield of course will be down but I prefer quality to quantity and with high temps, especially with poor air flow I'd say the heat of the HPS cancels out its advantages? I like the way you can sit the CFL's within a couple of inches of the buds with no problems at all.

Good luck with your grow.

Just stick with the CFL's bro, it's been said by many growers that the quality of bud from CFL's is better than HID and I feel the same way.. Sorry to hear about that mess bro, if I was to play with a 150w HPS I would buy the Spectramax T5/HPS system it has a 150w hps in the middle and 2 2ft T5's on each side! It's really cool bro...

I heard they have discontinued it for some reason but I'm still hoping to get one! here check it out
