2nd attempt, 1st soilless, 1 big question.

Hello R.I.U. community,

I'm just getting my 2nd grow attempt going and i noticed something that struck me as odd.

The plants in question all came from the same "bag"(canister from dispensary). I only know the mother as I wasn't in on the pollination. They all came from Pineapple Express. I presume they were unintentional so not feminized, two out of my 1st try were male, so that may be a possibility, but as you'll see the first pair have only put out three leaflets at the internodes, while their sisters have been throwing 5s since I put them in the tent20200312_165559.jpg20200312_165605.jpg

Is this indicative of anything?

So, what would you suggest for dwc over totes? Figured I would waste less solution in these. 2 gal each vs 4gal + in a bucket for a single plant. My checkbook told me to do it this way.

Totes are fine, but I wouldn't recommend pro-mix in dwc. I would also say get the bigger totes. I think the tops can still be used.

That is just coir and perlite. No soil.
I did put this in the hydroponics category, right?

Pro-mix isn't soil either, same thing, wouldn't be my first choice. Hydro balls or whatever you call them where you are is a good choice and be used forever. Unless of course you're starting seeds and trying to put that into dwc. But your Rez is very small and it won't be very stable so I would go out and buy a 20 somewhat size of that Lowes tote.

Ok, I honestly didn't know what promix was. So what about my little ones? Any idea why half of them are only throwing 3s while their sisters have thrown 5s?

You need to decide if you are going soiless or DWC. How are those red cups getting nutes to the roots from the rez? Those are pretty big healthy plants for a red solo cup. Normally it would be up-potted by now. I don't understand your DWC system.

Also... just do a drill system with what you have... change the res water once a week.... recircilate the water.

You may think you are saving nutrient by recirculating the water but if you drain to waste you actually waste less because you don’t have to res swap and on top of that you also get more control and less chance of rot

I cut holes into the bottom of the cups their roots look great. I try to keep the solution within an inch of the bottom now that the roits have energed, and each tub has an airstone. I keep them filled with a jug of solution I keep mixed the same as what they started the week with. I couldn't see much of a difference between a net pot and a perforated cup. So I perforated them and figured "Why transplant?" As long as these stay happy I'm changing as little as possible. 20200314_163927.jpg20200314_163939.jpg20200314_163953.jpg20200314_164006.jpg

I would think a dwc with soil would be a great way to guarantee rot and mold. Active soil in a nutrient filled environment, I can hear the mold growing!

That will work fine I guess. You have the right idea. For under $150 you could buy a Clone King and some net pots and some bigger totes to really kill it on your next crop.
