2nd Harvest: Please Help Answer Some Questions

Okay - this is my second grow attempt and this grow I have been using 400 HPS. I have Brainstorm and Purplewidow in heavy flowering now. The brainstorm has a nice sweet & subtle aroma now but the purple widow does not smell very different than any ordinary plant. I have a few questions.
1) The purple widow has not yet turned purple but the buds are filled in pretty nicely, but they arent thick and resinous yet. Question 1 - There are no healthy fan leaves - and to be more accurate there are really no healthy leaves at all. They have all slowly been turning yellow and dry/necro and powdering away - is this normal? and if so - how many more weeks till harvest/ till I see the buds thicken and get aroma - I think they have been flowering for at least 6 weeks now.
2) In my previous grow my buds smelled good while growing - like the brainstorm - but once I cut them down they smelled like grass/schwag instead of good quality headies. How do I make sure that the buds end up smellin' good and filling in nice and thick?

1.) Purple varietes dont always grow purple, in fact purpling usually mean a defficieny, You may very well have buds that turn purple after the harvesting of them, as a purple variety means the breakdown of THC into CBN and CBD.

as for the leaves dying, to some degree this is normal, the plant is killing off it fans leave to use the energy to make buds.

However without pictures I cant tell you if you have a dying plant or a normal one that is health-a-ly killing its fan leaves.

2.)As for the aroma post harvest, Are you flushing for the last week with plain water??? If your not then your smell is because of the ferts inside the plant still.

You NEED to flush your plants for the last week with NO nutrients in the water.

R/O water is best, however, there are additives you buy to mix with the RO

Well I def. haven't been using too much nutes - mostly organic MG soil and some turd/chumus mix. The brainstorm that I harvested recently has dried and is curing now (probably for like 3 days now). I tested one of the buds - just a small one - and when I broke it up it had that nice sweet aroma of headies that I was hoping for AND one hit gave me a niiice buzz BUUUUUT unfortunately, the taste was rather neutral and the smell of the mason jar I have them in still does not smell sweet like the buds do when I rip them. Suggestions?
