... Nah it was too far gone ...
They are pretty resilient life forms. This picture was taken after securing the branch to the main stem with the trusty pipe cleaner. While flattening, I made a larger tear than I thought and eventually the right branch fell completely off. You can see the leaf in the foreground is shriveling up:

This picture was taken ~26 hours later. The leaf un-shriveled and started looking for light:

Two days later, the pipe cleaner was removed:

It seems like males are used for more than what I initially thought.
I guess if you decarb the leaves you can still feel the effects.. slightly. The males do produce/contain thc. It still states that once females hit flower their thc content surpasses the males.

3 – Concentrate Production
Don’t assume that male plants are entirely devoid of THC. Males are indeed far less potent than females, but they still have THC, and thus, they can produce psychoactive properties. Male plants don’t produce big buds like females, but they still contain cannabinoids in their flowers, leaves, and stems.

In fact, male plants have a higher THC concentration in their leaves than females during the vegetative growth phase. By the adult stages, females have taken over and will produce a far higher THC ratio. By extracting the resin of your male plants to create hash oil, BHO wax, dabs, or other concentrates, you can enjoy some very unique concentrates that, believe it or not, can be pretty potent! (It’s also worth pointing out that you can get a gentle buzz by drying and pressing the pollen from a male plant).

FYI, you can isolate the males away to extract the pollen, and even store it for later use. You can then carefully brush it on just some of the buds on a female, so they are the only areas that seed out. You basically could still get your whole crop, plus a few seeds that way, if you wanted too.

Also, you can take a cutting way early on (make sure to label the cutting and host plant), just like the one you got in the cup of water, and put it directly to 12/12 lighting in a different spot.. Like a cupboard or something with a small cfl.

The clone will sometimes show sex before it even roots out, usually within a few weeks. That way, you can keep vegging the main plant, and also know sooner than later if you should cull it or not, without waiting around to find out, and wasting resources and space on males. Handy trick that helps in different situations, when your starting out, etc..
