2x 200W CFL's OR 1 400W MH ?????

More lumens with the MH. If you have the money to properly cool it go with the MH. The reason I like clfs is because you can surround your plants with the light strategically. If you only have 2 of them it kind of nullifies that bonus.

Its all about how many sq ft you are covering. 400w MH covers a 3x3 tops effectively but has penetration so they could be foot tall plants. If you have a ton of short clones I would recommend CFLs as you can spread that light out a bit more. Going to have problems though if the plants are taller.

I would go with 6 68w or 3 125w CFLs or a t5 strip.

If you're growing just a few large plants, go with the 400watt MH. If you want several 12" - 18" plants, go with an 8 light 4' T-5. Many of my large scale commercial grower friends are switching to T-5's. I would use them, except we grow very large plants and use 1000 watt MH's. T-5's can easily penetrate 18" plants, provide very even light distribution, generate little heat, and are bright enough to produce extremely tight node spacing.

thanks for feedback guys, i guess i should of mentioned the grow area would be 1.2 by 1.2m tent, around 9 plants in 20ltr pots not sure on using soil or the grow cubes at the minute, you no the tiny cubes that act as a medium, im guessing they would allow super amounts of air to the roots and produce a better yield ??

collective gardener that is a nice thread you have there i may copy a few of your ideas for the future hehe :D

Ive read alot on this, Supposeably MH works better then the CFLs, Unless Heat is an issue, Then ur better off with the CFLs
I agree. Cfls will take you thru veg and flower but if your trying to harvest the best, go for the HID bro. that said, if youre not trying for massive harvests CFLs can be a good little chill side-project. Its all about the "what, where, how many, how long and how big" so i hpoe that helps a little.
