3 Fingered leaves on my Plants?

Has anyone else had any 3 finger leafs on their plants or know what causes them? I have a Headband plant that started with 5 fingers and has gone down to 3...?? It's a clone from HHC in Oakland CA, started under 600hps for a month, planted outside about 3 weeks ago, now all new growth has 3 fingered leaves, and the plant is very healthy and continues to grow. This is where it gets tricky.... I have 4 plants in the same garden as previous years, last year my purple diesel (that was planted in the exact same spot in the garden as this years Headband) did the same thing. The 3 others in the garden are the same as when they were planted so no cause for concern there.
Could it be my nutes, PH, soil??? It did not have any effect on my plant last year I just rolled with it and enjoyed my harvest, a good one too. Why is it only in this location in my garden that the plant does this? If it was my nute regimen or PH I would think it would turn all my plants that way. Is it just maybe a coincidence? I know theres a few questions there just trying to get other growers opinions, any info would be great! Thanks in Advance! bongsmilie

3 fingered leaves are called Tri-Foilates, and no you don't get them cause of growing in last years spot, or by stressing your plant, it is a breeding thing, in the old days done by inducing the plant with Ghibellinic acids and other strange and dangerous shit, you plant will/should grow out of it, eventually if not there are many De-leafers here on RIU, that would be most interested in getting some, save them from ripping the leaves of their babes ...lol

Selecting standard and trusted strains is the way to go, many of todays strains have been fucked with so much, many can't and won't be around in 10 years such a shame

TMB, that sounds about right. I had the same process last year as well so that could be it. Thanks for help. I would be more concerned if it was effecting the plant but since its not I just wanted to know why it happens. Appreciate the advice also vostok I have never heard of that term before, learn something new everyday!

I had a virus years ago that would make my c99s throw out only one and three fingered leaves no matter how long u veg them. Before infected they pushed out the usual fives and sevens.

If not reveg then it possibly could be in the genetics of the strain and/or that
1 special pheno turned out better then the donater it
came from. I have found this to be true in several cases and in my fair
experience it most always means that plant will be very potent.

3 fingered leaves are sometimes found on some elite clone only strains
such as GSC, Blue Dream, OG Kush, and others without a reveg
imo.

If the plant throws out some 3 fingered leaves fairly late in veg then you'll
pretty much know you'll have a very potent plant to deal with in flower and
thereafter.

C99 is one of my favorite strains ...but that said, it is the most fucked up strains ever, of my collection of freaks(unpublished as yet) Cinderella99 has more monstrous descendants than ever ..

Thanks Milo, I thought the same thing after harvest last year because the plant came out very good. Looked great, smell and taste were awesome! I just thought I did a really good job with that strain... hahaha! Here is a pic of last years Purple Diesel that had 3 finger, some started having 5 again bust most stayed at 3. That is GSC in the background, the color difference is pretty noticeable. Too bad I didn't get that GSC 3 finger, still turned out good but that Purp D put it to shame for sure.
Vostak, I almost got C99 this year but wasn't familiar with it when I was at the club so I went with what I knew. Sounds
like it is a little tough to grow but probably worth it in the end :weed:! Haven't seen to much of it around to see what the finished product looks like or I might have picked it up this year. Man I love the growing season!!! Purple Diesel 2.jpg
