This is my first grow indoor. Will be growing 60 plant in soil mixed with the proper nutrients (NPK). I bought 60 3 Gallon plastic pots. These pots have the little holes around the bottom for drainage. I also bought 60 of the dishes to sit the pots on. Is this OK or should I of went with 4 or 5 gallon. Books are telling me 2 to 3 gallon.

For my intents, purposes and restraints; 3 gallon pots are too big.

Ok. First I wanted to be small on my first grow But my friend who has grown for 10 years insisted on 60 (My card + his me being caregiver makes 60 legal in our county of california). He will be helping me everyday so I think I should be OK. I bought the 3 gallon plastic pots at home depot. They are prtty pricey. $3.87 each. Then of course the right size plastic dish for the pots are another $2.87 each. Cost a little over $400.00 for 60 of both. I must say this thought. It is my first grow and my friend has grown for many years and has been very sucessfull with it, however, I have read many books and seem to know a lot more about different grow processes and the general anatomy of the plant and it's characteristics. This is what will give me the advantage in the future I am hoping for. Thanks for the advice guys.

At my local grow shop you can get 3 gallon heavy duty plastic square or round pots for under a buck. I hope you got some nice pots for all of that cash. I'm not sure the dishes were really necessary either. Good luck though, I hope you yield high! :peace:

3 gallon pots are fine as long as you dont over-veg them, they can get rootbound and wont yield as much. but since you're doing 60, id say sea of green is your best bet - in which case 3 gal will be more than enough.

For 60 plants I will be using either 8 240 Volt 1000 Watts air colled hoods of course with digital and switchable ballast MH for Veg and HPS for Flower, or I will use 6 with sun cirles.
I have 1 question.. How many plants do you think I can squeeze under each 1000 watt light for the Veg stage? Thanks. This will save on electricity of course.

depends how big they are, but for the veg stage you can get away with cramming them together and leaving some a lil farther away from the light as usual. ive seen 30 plants vegd under a 400watt, and they were pretty moderately sized too. but if theyre in 3 gallon pots, id say atleast 15 - although im trying to picture it in my head and im really stoned so i might be off. but for veg, id say atleast 15

God dam, 6.74 each plus tax. We went to a local nursery and grabbed them from the pile by the trash. Wal mart had 3 gallon pots on sale for less than 2 bucks each, or use grow bags. 10 for 2.99... But now that you have them i think you made a good choice using the 3 gallon pots. i have had good results with them..good luck
