3 Gallon Roughneck DWC

Hey there,
I recently made a one plant DWC out of a 3 gallon Roughneck tote. It is blue and already light proof so no worries there. I have a 12 inch bubble wall that is sitting flat on the bottom of the container being powered by a Tetra brand 40 gallon air pump. This is my first try with DWC so I'm not too sure what to expect. I am waiting for my seed to sprout in the 2 inch net cup filled with perlite. Is there a nute that is easy to use and only uses one type for veg and one for flower? If anyone has any suggestions or tips feel free to post here. Thanks a lot for all the help in advance!

don't think about nutes yet. just make sure that you keep your res water ph'd properly at all times. no need to add nutes for a little while. i would advise adding some voodoo juice in the res once the roots get into the water

yeah like mixin sad no nutes til roots. I like general hydro. been using it for 2 years. over time when u feel comfortable u can tweak the nutes and use some additives and such. just be careful. I had a completely seperate tank for my experiments some died some did very well and helped me in my ops. growing is fun when u have enough time and space to experiment. Be surprised what u might turn up. Peace...................................Herb.

Thanks herbal, i am experienced in soil but this is first go round with the mj. I grew broccoli in a smaller DWC but didn't use any nutes. Do you have any suggestions for an easy nutrient solution to use when the time comes? It would help me out a lot, thanks herbal

lol this is also called a bubble system, this is what i use, i love the hell out of it, and u get GREAT results, but what i did was put my seeds it rooting plugs, then when they sprouted i put em in the system, it was amazing cuz within a couple weeks it was alreay on 7 leaves goin on 9. i ended up with a 22inch plant within a month of sprout. i use GH Flora nutes, they work great for me, but some like to use different things. and btw, the 22inch plant had 11-12 leaves for a while

I'm looking into getting the nutrient trip pack - hydro formula from Fox Farm. It has Big Bloom, Grow Big, and Tiger Bloom for $38.00 at my local hydro store. Does anyone have any experience with these nutes? I have heard good things but would like to hear first hand experiences. Thanks!

i have a diy dwc w/ no top drip, i usually put the cubes on 1 1/2" of hydroton pellets or perilite and fill 1" w/ water to let the roots develop more.

if you plan on putting you seed prout in the DWC, do not use nutes until the second set of true leave or until your leaves start turning yellow/ showing signs of nute def

when you use your first dosage, use 1/4 strength, if using clones used 1/2 strength

Thanks again, my seed hasn't sprouted yet and I won't be going to the hydro store for a while. Will the plant be alright with just water for a little while? I have organic nutes (bone meal, blood meal, budswell) but i don't think they are good with bubbleponics...:?: Could anyone fill me in?

all sprouts need is water for the first two-three weeks, thats about how long it takes to grow two nodes

there are these new type of bulbs that give off 4000 lumnes each, thats more than one 48" FL tube, im thinking about trying them out, but first i need to find out if it is the daylight specture, i'll keep you updated

That is absolutely not correct.

If you wait for any leaves to yellow then you are already stressing the plant and disease makes for slow growth if any. Get the FF nute pack but mix the grow big at like 10% label strength. When you see another set of nodes up it to 25% label strength and keep adjusting until you know what the plant likes.

I actually decided to turn the 3 gallon roughneck into a cloner. I cut two clones off of my flowering female (5 weeks in) and one of the clones rooted in a little over a week. I didn't use any cloning powder/gel either so I am def going to start using this more often! I might eventually keep the other clone in there (if it roots) as a mother. I would move it to a net pot with perlite maybe... Would that work?

Hey tom its easiest to germ seeds ur normal way till u get tap root and then for dwc.....get urself some jiffy peat plugs(dro store) Drop them in tap root down and simply place the plugs in the hydroton flush with the hydroton. Thats all u need to do and make sure ur water is at the bottom of ur net pot....water the plug with maybe a quarter cup of water a day till u get root growth in water usually within a week......

All u need is water till those roots hit the water.... then begin feeding nuts 1/4 strength and bump to half in the next 2 weeks. If they blow fast u will have to feed a couple times the first couple weeks but u can expect a 12 inch plant ready to flower 2 weeks after ur roots hit the water bro...

Nice work on the clones bro.... I put my clones in a simple cup of water and nothing else. Change the water every day and they usually have root bumps within 3-4 days at which time i place in a pot with 1 inch buffer of hydroton and the water level about half inch below bottom of pot........ Usually takes 1-2 weeks 4 clones are ready to flower at 10-12 inches lol

Welcome to dwc!

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot for the comments man! I am really hoping that the other clone that is currently in the DWC will root soon and i can put her in a netpot in center of the lid and then really start growing haha. I am going to start germing a few seeds either tonight or tomorrow so I have a few to play around with. I have had those jiffy pucks for a long time and never had a whole lot of success with them but if they work well with this system I will give them another chance lol. +rep for the helpful post man

you'll do good, just don't overcare your plants, thinking you have to do so much to them, take it easy and you'll be good
