3 gallon yield vs 5 gallon

I grow in both 3 and 5 gal smart pots. Autoflowers go in 5gal and regular go in 3. No way to say what the difference will be but I usually get a bit more with the 5gal autos. But it all evens out because I only have room in my tent for 3 5gal or 4 3gal. And all of that aside your yield will depend on many factors such as the strain, lights, nutes, temperature, humidity, and your skill as a grower.l

I consistently pull between 2-3 ounces from 8-10 inch tall plants in 1 gallon pots..

I am however considering going back to 40 oz pop bottles (cut to maybe 25 actual usable ounces) as I 'seemingly' notice the shorter and taller 'pot' affords much more lights up UNDER the canopy (it's all I can figure), and the last few times I have ran these 25 ounce (or so) soil containers up against 2 gallon pots in the same environment, and noticed the tiner pots did MUCh better in my lower light (CFL) situation.

I am MOST concerned with transplanting the plant into at least 'some' fresh, GOOD soil immediately as she goes into 12/12,,,, A tiny bit of soil or a lot of soil, this seems to be one consistent beneficial,.

Grow space also affects results.

If you have limited floor space, and throw four 3 gallon or two 5 gallon containers into a 2'x3' grow area, yield will be identical if you are maxing the light foot print and letting the plants veg out to the space. In this example, bigger pots did not yield more bud and required double the vegetative period.

You will see many growers use smaller containers to shorten the veg period and bump up the variety in the strains.

If I use my 7.5litre pots that are 10" tall I find my plants don't get past 7" of roots when my grow is finished

I've recently started using 5litre pots that are wider than tall and my plants are growing faster bigger and more bushy, and I'm pulling more weed off eatch plant and I also can water and nute more in a week

You can grow in smaller pots, but as the plants get bigger, they will use up the available water much more quickly.

If your just getting started the go with the 3s. It will allow you to learn what your babies need. Saves on water as well. There are soooo many factors that determine yield. Do your research on each strain. Lights, temps, for the area and your water. But try. I've been at this since before internet and u have it easy to find information. The true test is the application I wish you the best in your endeavor bigger pots dont always mean bigger plants or harvest.
