you can totally try and compare it to outside or optimized greenhouse grows.
what kind of ppfd does the sun give? or the greenhouses with supplemental HIDs?
what strains produce 1kg/m^2? 500g/m^2? (in those settings)

also in another direction you may not need all the light your talking about. If you get bigger pots and tune in your grow more you could get 500g per square meter easy. in a 2x4 i got 20 oz dry and cured. 4 3000k vero29s and 2 4000k vero29s running at 1400mA. Cotton Candy and THC bomb

I'm interested in seeing what kinds of yields you pull off with the defoliation. I'm also watching a commercial grower called medicropper try defoliation on youtube. he does some crazy things to get 4 pounds per 1k HPS.

Now I'm going for 5-10 pounds in this room. with 4 times the light.

Ya I just watched the guy Episode 31.

Basically I loved this guy, he was my hero.

If I wanted to be anything or reach any goal that would be bien in his shoes.

The first I admired the guy, how helpful he is and how he basically do everything..

Just till his last clip when he stated that he is not gonna say any more his secrets or how he do every thinv bla bla bla and that its competition now!!!

Basically I lost all respect for this guy. I MEAN what the fuck. He is just one more greedy selfish guy now!!

Like he has not enough wealth or goals that he hasnt accomplished and now he is just like a shark eating the small fishes that just wanna live!

No RESPECT!

well, i still respect him as a very good grower in the commercial sense. He is allowed to keep his secrets imo. i don't share all my tricks either. i eventually would like to be big in the medical industry and something needs to separate me from other people who may have been doing it just as long or longer than me. i do however share almost everything with RIU=]

Are you running a high power COB LED array? Suddenly it seems everyone is building one to run the chips- and the girls- harder than ever.

I went with a large area array, calculated to 824PPfD. One reason I did this was to evaluate heat buildup in a sizeable system. Another is to see just how much I can cram in a little box!
High powered? That may be overstated. I grow in a 2x4 foot box. I have 8 Vero 29s going at about 850ma. That’s about 30 watts a cob and about 15 PAR watts a cob (and 15 PAR watts a sq/ft) for about 750ppfd. I run my bare cobs about 6-8” above the canopy. Admittedly I do have “Flat Canopy OCD”, but actually measuring across the canopy shows a pretty even 700ish ppfd. Low by some’s standards, but sooooo much better than my previous runs with HPS.

Have you been able to measure your coverage at the canopy? Is it near the low 800ish level?

i have a thread going=P https://www.rollitup.org/t/organics-and-leds.844672/page-2#post-12382928

shows my nobody start lol with purple lights and cfls. I use roots organic, with 25% super soil mix at the bottom of 10 gallon smart pots. and nectar of the gods nutes from week 2 of flower till harvest. i train my plants to have 16-20 tops and my canopy is about 12-18 inches deep of thick yummy nugs(.7g nug or heavier is a ok in my book)i make BHO from the larf and trim. and i add a whole lot of air movement. so far I've been getting about an 1 oz of bud for ever gallon of soil (i know its not a good way to measure it) so i may try 20 gallon buckets for the big room. another thing is it took me a long time to find these really good yielding strains that are also really dank.

my best yeilder in terms of bud per m^2 is critical super silver haze. in a 5 gallon smart pot i got 6.4oz dried and cured and it was under an Area 51 SGS-160 form 2 years ago. because of its really tight nodes i can veg this strain for a long time before flower so get a bunch of colas and tops.
Thanks. I will read up and probably have a few questions for ya on your thread!

I have only just gotten the system set up and running, and I don't have much testing equipment. I definitely will at some point, tho!

currently
-soil (19l pots) and feeding with Bio-bizz.
-17x175w shitty chinese panels over 4m2 area
-burning natural gas to produce co2 1200-1500 ppm

the cool hood works amazing.
though I still need to add a stronger fan to pull the heat out even better.
the temps at day 24.5-25.5c canopy level (night ouside)
temps at night 21-22c

I got one dehumidifier and ac working
the humidity is 60-75%.
I guess I need another dehumidifier for better results

Can we go back to the part where you take 3000w of led and install it into a cool hood

Like an old hps cool hood

nice thread cool grow but I`m disappointed, looks like I`ll have to wire up them 600w of drivers to 1200w of cob into that old cool hood I used to run a 600mh in

Still 3000w of led in cool hood on one massive plant say 4m up lighting a 2x2m area to 4x4m area would be cool, probably not as efficient as your set up but still, it`d be cool to see

Even if you can get a LUX meter that would be very helpful. And there are some good conversion numbers that will make that into a good ball-park PAR meter for use with white COBs. In the end the girls have the last say. If they start turning into "bleached blondes" then Im to close!

Would like to see pics when you are up and running.

thank you for your input, I have done the math in the meantime and it seems that 500w per sq meter will give me 1300ppfd (just as the brightest day at 12:00)
because I will use the B version driver I will be able to dim down all the way to 350ma and adjust for the sweet spot and maybe go full power in mid flower or in the mid of the day for a few hours).

though I'm not sure how to calculate how much ppfd i can expect from 500w 20 cobs @350ma[/QUOTE]

*Just letting you know there are those interested in how that first harvest came out...just saying. And some of your observations...like what you would do different, what you will do again.

And another question, where will you source an 80" heatsink (2 meters)? I'm very interested in your new build as well.

Thanks.

Yes and no. I am always interested in post harvest commentary...like what would I keep doing? What would I do different next time? So please share in that regard.

And I was interested in how AE's harvest came out and his post-harvest commentary. Also, in his proposed new cob build he's going to use 2M heatsinks...so wanted to know where those were coming from. Back a few posts are pics of his proposed, "Scorched Earth Photon Generator!" Gotta see how that turns out.

I did check out your grow thread. You make vertical growing look good. I have zero experience with that. I have only grown in short grow boxes were topping, training horizontal and canopy management have been paramount. A flat top "martini glass" shaped grow is what I have done. It would take a while for me to turn my head and my grow 90 degrees and go vertical. o_O

Took me awhile, too. Most of what you know about topping and training still applies... just differently, lol

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated!

sorry for posting only now, here are photos from the harvest after 2 defoliations at day 17 & day 28
even with 2 extreme defoliations there was no noticed impact on weight or quality...

I will continue to pluck ugly leaves here and there..
I guess do it when air flow is restricted or if some vary large leaves blocking the buds
