I can partition off part of my closet using tent material,

I was thinking 4 plants.

I will be using a 400W CMH

Soil, heavy LST, 5gal pots

38"W(by)18"L(by)63"(H)

My buddy and I had 5 plants in 1.6 gallon pots in a 3'x3'x6' Secret Jardin tent and it was way too crowded. With the dimensions you listed, I would go with 3 plants maximum. You might want to look into SCROG, but LST will work just fine.

3x5gal seems like it would be the best fit for my needs..

With such small space, I will likely not move into 5gals until flowering, as I am planning on starting 5 seeds to get hopefully 3 females. Keeping them in 2.5gals until they sex, then tossing the dudes and repotting the gals.

Also, we used a 400w MH/HPS and topped one plant and fim'd 4 at about 1.5ft. They were thrown into flower at around 2 feet and ended up being a little over 4 feet tall by harvest. Wat too tall in my opinion. I would have liked the plants to finish at about 3ft tall. But we yielded about 1oz per plant. Try to keep the temperatures below 85 with good ventilation and air circulation and you should be golden.
