3rd Week of Flower, LSD losing leaves fast!! HELP!!!

Hey im growing a Barney's farm LSD, a seedsman white widow, and two autos under a 400w hps. Its the 3rd week of flowering and im noticing that my LSD's fan leaves are turning yellow and dying. I know this is ok during the final weeks, so I bought a Nute test kit, and everything seems ok. I give it a small dose of N every other week, and test for N, and the levels are ok.

-Ive battled spider mites on and off, never with too much of a problem.
-LSD is my tallest plant and is very close to the light (but not burning)

My theories on the matter are:
1) Because the main cola is very close to the light, it catches a super dose of lumens, thus doing a lot of work for the plant. So, maybe the plant is losing the fan leaves below it bc its getting enough light from the top of the plant. (even though the lower fan leaves are getting plenty of light i.e. there not in the shade...)

2) Could there be a disease? My ph is in a kosher range, but I dont know much about plant disase?

3) Could spider mites be sucking the life out of the plant to the point where its sacraficing its own leaves? (I dont see any new mites since my last attack on them)

4) could chlorine levels in my water be blocking nutes such as N from the plant?

Does anybody have any ideas??? Everything in the grow has been great, and im really not trying to loose this great (and ex- healthy) plant at this point in the game.

ANY IMPUT IS VERY APPRECIATED!!!! thank you!

you either are overwatering or i'd say you did not feed enough nitrogen, if you are not overwatering give em a little nitrogen but not as much as you would during vet time...but without pics its always harder to give advice

ive done 5 or 6 of them now and they have all had the same problem with yellowing right away in the first few weeks of flowering.

did it continue through flowering? or did it stop? i lost most of the really big fan leaves, but theres still plenty of mid sized ones growing out of the tops of the branches near the buds...

it didnt stop, they all kept turning yellow until all the fan leaves got pulled off. I have 1 right now that is about day 23 flowering and have already lost a bunch in the last few weeks.

I havent had any nice yields from it yet, im hoping thats from the very high temps i had all summer in the room. The one i have now is the only one that wont be in high temps. The buds looked more like dr grinspoon buds than a nice dense nug. Im not sure on the yield since i smoke it all before i get a chance to weigh anything. I have a secret jardin dr100 with a 400w cmh and 2 68w cfl's. Right now i have 5 plants in there but only 2 are lsd.

all you mentioned was that you give it a small dose of nitrogen. Do you give it other nutrients as well? Have you flushed at all? If so what were the ppm going in and then going out?

No, cola doesn't do work for rest of plant. You want light hitting as much of the plant as possible so that it can produce as much bud all over. If the main cola is all that's getting light, that's what will gain the most weight.

The fact the cola gets lots of light does not cause leaves at bottom to fall off. This is, however, normal during flowering. If they are falling off at an unhealthy rate, check for more spidermites as the problem, as well as Nitrogen defeciency. While they don't need much N during flower, this is something that can be ignored by many. Feed gradually in small doses if this is the problem until problem ceases, then discontinue N feeds and return to bloom only.

Yes, mites can suck water/nutrients from the plant. I like to use organic insecticide sprays that help kill mites. On top of that, I feed my plants SILICONE products, such as Botanicare's Silica Blast. The next product I will get that is similar is DG ProTekt. This silicone will help strengthen cell walls throughout the plant, hardening off stems, and preventing pests to be able to penetrate them and continue to feed from them. Using these two methods in tandem can greatly reduce the damage the create when present, and the sprays can help kill them off completely. Make sure you spray UNDER the leaves, as that's where they hang out and thrive. They do not like light, and the leaf veins are easier to access below, which is why.

Hope this helps!

+rep? What? Huh? haha :)

Cheers

thank you. I think spider mites may have more to do with this then i thought... I found a little colonie (no webs tho) on some back branches that i couldnt see as well. Im going to pull the plant out and give it a shower in some neem oil and organic soap spray and fucking drown those guys. I also didnt mean that only the main cola was getting light... i meant that leaves were growing near the tops of ALL the branches.

btw i use the complete fox farm line, when i said i added N, it was a light dose of grow big, on top of my BB and Beastie buds

If you want to expose more light to the top branches/colas, you can trim down some of the leaves. Simply take a bit of each leaf/point tip off. Try to cut as quick & clean as possible. This will still keep some of the leaf on for photosynthesis/nutrient storage, all the same, allowing some extra light penetration to the buds. Try not to do too much of this trim method, but a few fans here and there is fine. Too much pruning during flower can stunt growth, stress, cause hermies/seeds. So just use this technique in moderation if you choose to, and it should work just fine. You can also consider purchasing some cheap/cool CFLs and running them around the base level of your plant off the same timers as your HPS and that way you'll get some extra light hitting those lower growth areas that are typically shaded. When I move back to indoor this winter I look forward to creating an intricate setup of multi base level lights and will do less lollipopping and look forward to seeing the results. Many growers prefer this method.

Hope this helps, cheers!
