As of jan 1st , it is legal for me to grow 5 plants in il. So I've decided to design my own grow tent controller. I've got a question i will bold below Im kind of long winded and enjoy talking about this stuff so forgive me, no one irl to share with. First I will explain what I have going.
Im stuck in a room that gets very little cooling. The temp sits at 72 with every fan in the house going to get air moving, and I have a patio window and a portable but i dont want my door open all the time, so im doing experiments to see how fine of control i can get as it sits. patio door closed.
I got a vivosun 3x3 tent because i didnt know better at the time.
I have a 440 cfm exhaust with a 16 inch carbon filter.
I have a shitty vivosun booster at like 120 cfm for intake with an intake carbon filter .
I have a cmh 315w light . (also am ordering another replacement led light due to the problem this post is about , heat)
The grow is a DWC. 8 inch basket , expanded clay and rockwool cubes.
Standard bubble pump,
I will be growing gobstopper, and a slew of other things ive collected. But first up is gobstopper. mmm gobstopper (the filtering might seem overkill but that is ok with this strain).
Now I have been doing simple tests, turning the light on and monitoring the temp with a thermocouple i built. This is at about 530 pm , when I figured the system would struggle most.
With the fan on low , intake on, light on , and the room door open for the fans to push cool air in ........ my temp was stable at 77/78.
With the door closed it was 81, and very slowly still climbing , suspected runaway green house style
I planned to make my own controller and have it more than 50 % done but my initial tests say my fan will be running full blast all the time to hit the marginally acceptable number of 77.
But the fan running constantly with the lights will probably mess with humidity?
Of note is the fact i did not load the bucket and have it bubbling , and i suspect my marginal numbers may improve significantly giving the environment the temperature density afforded by the water to damp changes.
I was expecting this to need a pid controller for temp and humidity , but my results so far indicate the fan will be running all the time with lights on and humidity will be sacrificed for temp control. Can you advise me how to proceed ? 77 as the best case scenario indicates to me that I will need to supplement the co2 (yeast bucket?) and hope the plant handles my excessive temps till winter when i will be set.
Am I good to go if 77 is the lowest I can possibly get? With a yeast bucket?
Do i need to retest with water bubbling ? Seems an obvious yes
Any other insight you can offer?
ps I figure the only people ever destined to see inside my tent other than you guys are the police, and or fire department. This is gonna be legal so I decorated for those most likely to see it
