(4) 600 watt or (2) 1000 watt

hello all, had a quick question regarding light setup. i am looking for some info. from exp. growers on which setup to use with cooltubes: (4) 600 watt lights or (2) 1000 watt lights. i plan on using 4 flood tables with a perputal SOG grow. also, would enclosing each table with panda film help reflect more light onto plants? (like making a cube around each table top to reflect light). Thanks!

id go for 4 600w lights as there more manageable also if u have not bought the cooltubes yet buy air cooled hoods instead as the light spread from a cooltube is not great.

i second that...

4 lights has much more options and can cover a larger area more evenly.. especially since you are doing a SOG you dont necessarily need the penetrating power of a 1k to reach deep into the canopy, and would be more beneficial to cover more plants

4 - 600w for sure the options as mentioned before, but also the lummens to watts is drastic between the 600 and 1000 the 600 being a far more effective in the watts=lumens(output)dept. good luck

thats a total myth.

i live in a 2 bedroom apt and use 2400 watts

i know peeps who live in 3 bedroom houses using 8-10k watts

power companies love that you use electricity, the only way they gonna care about the electricity is if you are stealing or if the pigs ask for your info.. and if they askin for your info then its too late

thanks all, i was thinking the same thing in regards to coverage vs. penetration due to the SOG grow style. In regards to the "cooltube" vs. "coolhood" i was gona use a cooltube with a batwing reflector (like the one Al B Fuct uses, i figured that was the best setup i could use.

Is cost an issue? You can get 1000w Sun System 10 EconoGrow ballasts with 6" air cooled YieldMaster 2 hoods for $270+shipping online. If you are doing 4x4 tables I would put 1x 1k over each rather than 2x 600w unless I had an unlimited budget. 600w ballasts are only slightly cheaper and so are their bulbs...that same set up in 600w is only $20 cheaper. Even if you have an unlimited budget the C.A.P. NextGen 1000w e-ballast is an amazing device, superior to Lumatek IMO. Get all aspects of your grow nailed down then maybe explore different lighting ideas. If you are starting up go for the cheapest way to get it done...you can always remodel in a few months.

would running the (4) cooltubed 600s have an advantage of being able to get closer to the canopy of the plants? cost is important but not a limiting factor, just looking to design a room with best bang for the buck.

yes 600w burns cooler than a 1000w so you could get them closer but the 1000w puts off more light so the difference is neglegable.. the main benefit for the 600w is that you can cover a larger area and are getting a better lumen/watt ratio
