4' alibaba smd 2835 for $30cdn

I just picked these up for 30cdn each.

The guy orders them from alibabba in cases of 100 for 15$cdn each and resells them. He said he just sold 260, and has sold over 800 since he started.

Not bad profit, we will see how bright they are (should be 100 Lm/w @ 20w = 2000lm)

I don't have a filtered 4' wide space right now, so I'll be testing on lettuce - not sure if that's helpful.

I'll run it on its own and see how well it can grow the plants compared to what I'm using right now.

Well, these look marginally better than a sunblaster t5 @ 92 Lm/w compared to these 100Lm/w

I forgot to mention though these are 5000k, the sunblasters are 6500k. I'm not see how the temp affects the usable light output (does 6500k have even less usable light than the 5000k?)

If that's true they would have a little bit more of a benefit from the t5

These do also cost less than the 4' t5 @ $54 cdn... So

If these maintain good output for longer than one year they would be a better deal than a t5, right? (t5s need to be replaced yearly dont they?)

These are built really cheap tho.

If you bought a case for 1500$Cdn, resold them to cover your cost at $30 each you'd end up with around 45 4' strips left over.

Could be a decent plan. The guy said that they are selling really good.

How many t5 fixtures do you have with how many lamps? I'm thinking of buying the 6 lamp off ebay/amazon for $70 & using led tubes for them.

Don't do that...t5 use ballast to start and those don't...you will spend less by buying a t5 naked reflector!
@PicklesRus could confirm that those do not need any ballast just direct current from a plug so buying only a t5 reflector is enough...don't waste your money my friend...use it for good seeds...lol!

You're right, these come already wired up with a cord, you just gotta buy a plug. I would say it's a waste to buy a fixture and put led tubes in it like @littlejacob said. Those tubes made for fluorescent fixtures are only for people that already have fluorescent fixtures, they aren't meant to be used on new fixtures, the extra parts (fluorescent ballast) is a waste of money (and I bet it wastes more electricity too.

I'll put pictures up of the light I got once it's connected tonight

Yea that's totally true @Airwalker16 - the reflector is only useful because the flouroescent bulbs shoot light up and down - but these led only shoot down so that kind of reflecto let is overkill. I guess it might work tho, but it would be better to use something different in my opinion

I'm trying to get a light to go above this flood and drain tray that's 19x28 . It'll be full of hydroton and clones in 6" net pots with hydroton too. But lots of commercial growers use t5's so that ballast seems like a great deal for the money and just enough light to veg clones for flowering later. Should I just go with that or buy a few of those type light? A 6 lamp t5 with reflector and bulbs (6500k), ready to go for $75 usd, shipped, is a pretty good deal I think.

In my limited t5 experience that seems like a decent deal.

It says the fixture is 15,000 lumens and is HO.

I don't know if you can get leds that fit inside a t5ho fixture, but it seems like a good price compared to the prices around my area. Once those bulbs need replacing you would probably have to get more t5s.


Oh yeah t5s will make a lot more heat than led.. But honestly there are a lot of ppl here using t5s. I think you should post your question with link to that light in the cfl forum and ask opinions on veggies with t5s

Hard to beat 75$ In my opinion

Traded slightly better efficiency and longevity for light output!

The upfront cost of these leds are 2.5x a t5ho.

At least they don't get as hot :pthese are cool but looks like they are still expensive.

One Philips green power production LeD modules claim to replace 2 t5ho.

If I need 2.5 of these led for the output of one t5ho, then I need 5 to equal a Phillips Greenpower production module. 37$x5=$187, the Philips are only $140 a strip and build way better. So for growing plants, not a great deal. For lighting up your house, yea that's what they're good for.

My math might be exaggerated - they might not be that bad but these are definitely a low output led fixture

So what are you saying? You wish you woulda just bought a t5 fluorescent like the one I posted?
