400 mh heat over 600 air cooled heat

Good days to all,

Since I am going to be making an investment for an air cooled hood, my question pertains to those who have had the experience of going from bare bulb to air cooled hood. Since my 400 bare bulb has it 84 degrees in grow room, would purchasing a 600 watt air cooled hood keep it cooler than 84 degrees? Or would it be wiser since the hot season is coming to buy an air cooled 400? Have a good one.

it depends on the size of your room and how many lights but yes a 600 watt air cooled reflector should keep your temp down below 80.
you could do the 400 watt air cooled but your yield will be less compared to a 600 watt. aslo when using aircooled reflectors remember that 5 to 7% of lumens is lost due to the glass thats in front of the bulb....try to keep this glass as clean as possible.
hope this helped ;)

Intake air temp and ducting layout will make the biggest difference here.
If you use a dedicated fan and an outside of room to outside of room vent for just the hood you will almost def reduce your temps even with the 600 watt.
But as intake air temps go up the heat will go up in the room.

I am growing only 2 plants. Not sure how much more a 600 would effect my yield.

your Yeild Should be 20 to 30% more than a 400 watt no matter how many plants you have....the 600 is far more of an intense light.

This is solid advice.

I used to run my air cooled BLOCKBUSTER 6" with 600w this very same way and had a 2nd fan with filter to exchange air and scrub it.

As for yield it ultimately depends on you more than anything.

I actually down graded to 400w from my 600 and i no longer air cool.

With 2 plants under 400w you should be doing some decent veg time to maximise your space. I use my 400w in a 3x3 footprint with 4 plants. I just harvested some cheese at a total of 439g.

Would moving to the 600w mean buying new equipment?

If so I say just buy the hood for your 400w control temps better and see how you go.
