400 watt hps: is it good for my grow tent?

My grow tent is: 32" x 32" x 63"
Do you think a 400 watt would be enough or over kill?
What kind of inline blower should i get for ventilation?

I think you would be fine with a 200 cfm inline but in that situation bigger is better. With a 400 cfm you could use fine in a bigger room if you ever upgraded

yeah the 400 is almost perfect for that area, for quiet fans, best thing is to get a bigger one with fan controller and set it on low,it will be super quiet, insulated ducting also helps. you need in that space like 100cfm so you can get a 200cfm and set on medium

I run my fan and light at night, so the only fan on is the exhaust/filter fan during the day. So, basically I have 2 lesser fans instead of a big daddy and the fan for the light is on a timer.

Obviously this works better when you hit 12/12. Kind of a bitch because if you need to make a fix to your set up, feed or whatever you have to wait until night time.

400 w is extremely high for that amount of space.
if u dont have the right ventilation, with venting tubes, multiple fans, cooltubes, youre gonna be in a lot of trouble.
you might want to look into a 250w and get a couple extra mini lights if need be. if u look on eBay, ofc all the sellers will shout "400w 400w is the way to go" but theyre trying to move product. 400w is neither the median nor the the average light needed because everything is based on grow size. and if ur overheating ur plant, ur yield will def suffer.

i think you missed something, his area is 2.6'x2.6' thats like 7 squared feet, no way a 250 can cover it, 400w is just right

I don't know what everyone's opinions are on lumateks dimmable digital ballast. But I bought one, so I can go 250 or 400. I will never be out more than a light bulb and most likely won't have to upgrade if I switch areas. A thought...

Sounds like you have the same tent I do. Glowlabs GL80? 400w is perfect for that sized tent, as long as you use a vented hood, If you are only going to use the fan to vent the light then a 200cfm would be fine, if you are going to use a carbon filter and a cool tube set up then I would opt for the 400cfm fan, as the filter will cut back on the amount of cfm's you cal pull. My closet is about the same size but with white walls.
My 250 MH/HPS was perfect for my way of growing.
As the plants got taller I added a free standing Home Depot 70 watt HPS at the pot level and it grew great IMO. Still, 320 watts, but didn't need to burn it all the time and saved money.

I'd strongly suggest a real 6" blower (not a inline duct fan) with the controller. Don't forget the carbon filter with the package deal (Ebay?). Buy it once and be done with it. I spent a small fortune trying to save a buck. :wall:

Just a thought from been there...

Get a cool tube and Vent the air right out. thats what heats the space up. or just an air cooled hood. I have two 150 watters with no hood venting in a 4x4 tent and they get hot. I have exahusting and inaking from the room the closet is off of. grow is in my sig. from this experience every hood I buy from now on will be air cooled

IMHO? Air exchange followed by don't over (heat) light the grow.
I'm testing a LED presently with side(?) lighting.
So far, so good. But I'm not ready to make recommendations yet.

you're wasting energy and grow power.

Nice thing about a light system, just like nutes, give them what they need without over doing (and being wasteful).

I start on a single CFL, then advance as needed to 4 (none over 23 watts). Then to MH and to HPS top and down low.
Cost shit to grow. And next to it for cooling.
If this LED works it'll totally eliminate any cooling cost plus save wattage by 40%+.

forget the cfl, you will yeild crap all...

go the 400W hps and put it in a cool tube to control heat...

and forget LED too, for any decent growth you need the same wattage as a HID anyway, and you dont get the light penetration

I beg to differ. Numerous grow guides reccomend 5k-7k lumens per square foot in the right spectrum. I did the math and with my lights I'm around 2k per square foot. It is my understanding that with more of the correct light you get more dense nugs, up to a point that is. To say that Im wasting anything with tiny Hid's is misleading

Meant like from beginning to end.
For seedlings you can get a doz. or so in a sq. ft, but not need 400 watts.
Stepping light up as needed is a nice way to go IMHO.

your 400 will work awesome in that space. a 400 cant be very overkill they run very cool and with a vented reflector you very much in the good. for a blower i ran 2 400's off a 97 cfm snail blower with no issues at all kept the lights 6-9" from the tops at all times with no burns and no rise in ambient temps.
