400w balast wiring

Could I rewire my 400w ballast with an extension cord? I need longer cable for the lamp part and the plug for the wall. I was wondering if I could cut an extension cord in half and use each half to rewire both parts. Is this possible? If not what wires will I need to purchase to rewire the ballast? I can try to get pics if needed

extend the cord for the ballast to the light keep the ballast close to the plug.

if it is a high bay light. googles DIY high bay grow light. this will explain how to make the bulb and ballast separate giving you a remote ballast.

These questions are a bit silly. How do we suppose to know the gauge of the wire? All things being different, things are different. Cut the black insulation off and get a gauge and find out. Why not just plug the extension cord into the end of the ballast plug? Makes too much sense?

if you did use an extension cord it would have to be one of those thick orange ones normally used for working outside, but i wouldn't rewire anything id just add the cord to the power part and find something to mount the ballast on
