just ordered the dirty dozen package from htg and i was thinkin of taking the reflector of and doing a stadium grow.

my idea is that i would have 2 feet x 2 feet of floor space for the middle and surrounding that build a shelf that is in a shape of a square but i dont know how tall to build it

i want the plants to finish around 2 feet so i think i will flower at 10 inches

also the strain is blueberry

please help
thank you

also how much do you think i will yield

I think your on the right track for taking advantage of the useable light im thinking more like 3.5 feet x 3.5 feet with a 12inch wide 12inch tall shelf like you said in a square formation 8 plants on top of shelf and maybe 4 on the ground level.

My 2 cents

Hey Buckwheat,

Im going to try something similar and it might work for you.

Instead of building shelves get a poultry screen and start high on one side and make a U down and up the other side. Then run some across the back wall. You can train the plants in the middle with the screen and just let he outer plants grow up the screen on the sides.

Im going to try that next in a similar size space.
Might work for you to.

Oh forgot, I have seen statium grows and the shelf height you need would be about 8 inches if your max is 24". You just need enough for the buds to be taller then the ones in front from what I've seen.

Buckwheat, How big is the room? If you have the space, probably 6x6 min. and you hang the light vertical, you may be able to build two shelves using 400w.
As to height, the lower plants can overlap the upper plants by the height of the container plus about 5 inches or so with out shading.
With this square configuration and 2 shelves/8plants, I would think anywhere from 8oz up to 13 or 14 is reasonable, depending on your skill level.

Omeds,Talking about two shelves. One a few inches off the floor, another about 20inches higher built around the light on all four sides.Check out a guy named Green Bastard on CannabisCulture.com, His setup is huge compared to a single 400w setup, but the principle is the same. Theres also a guy here at RIP, FloJo, he also has a similar setup.

i'm sorry to burst your bubble but that will not work u will be unhappy with the results.
i did a stadium with 3 600's and it didn't do well the only ones that i have seen a decent yield were ones with multiple 1000's
the overlapping of light sources is what helps and in my experience plants do much better with the light facing strait down on the plants, leaves are solar panels but not the bottom or the sides.

I have to say i disagree . Although multiple lights would work better im sure you could make it work ! It may take some trial and error but it can be worked out im sure . It may not even be the best wayto go but i think it can work.

Sorry to disagree

i wish you good luck! but i will say this u might only want to make 2 steps at the most and keep the reflector on and veg to about 8 to 10 inches.
something to think about

tie a string exactly where your bulb would be and move the string around to find the optimum heights that would work, trying to plan ahead for the plants in mind.

You want equal distance to the light, but not lighting from below the highest ones.

fredflintstone thanks, got it.

I think the configuration Omeds was describing is more of a square with a couple of shelves surrounding the light. This is a very different setup than the Northern Farmer type stadiums. Two shelves of plants that finish at around 20inches should be fairly well lit with the 400w.
HOHO; I'd be curious as to why your 3x600w stadium did'nt do well. I'm on my fourth cycle with the same setup. It's three shelves and 48 plants. I dont pack it very tight and turn them often. The yield is consistantly better than the flat gardens they replaced. Anything I should watch out for? I always wanna do better!

i think the reasons that it didn't work good for me was i made a set up exactly like northern farmer but with hps and the shape of the bulb i think has something to do with it, i have a cheap light meter and when i check the brightness from different areas it was not optimal specially under the bulb where in standard grows this is the best spot.
the 2nd and 3rd were the best shelves and 4th and 5th were way to far from the bulb and the bulbs were the same level as 4 and 5 and the leaves could not get the light they needed then i put the reflector back on and checked with meter and it was 3 times more intense and my buds got more dense in about a week now i'm back to flat with a light mover:blsmoke:
