Well the new cabinet is up in full swing. Tested temps on the 13th-14th, all was good so the 15th i dropped 12 AK-48 seeds from Nirvana into Foxfarms Ocean Forest soil and mixed a bit more Fafarm organic perlite.
I put the seedlings in red dixie cups filled 3/4 with foxfarm soil and added half a hand full of perlite "shook to mix"

For my first outdoor i used earth juices grow, catalyst, and bloom however i wasnt impressed with it so i picked up a set of Foxfarm ferts grow big, tiger bloom, & big bloom. I intend to follow the feeding schedule with 1/2 the noted doses from foxfarm and flush a week before harvesting

I wasnt sure how i was going to pot 12 in the cabinet so what i have decided to use was 2gal grow bags i picked up from a hydro store @ 60cents per piece. i do understand that 12 is a bit much for this small of a cabinet so im planning to veg them for a while and clip a bunch of clones from them all. i dont have room for veg & flower to be separated so i have a few friends that will take some and i will save some in water for later use if they last long enough
I also didnt wire the cabinet for CFL during veg so the 400w is overkill but effective all in the same.

whats in the cabinet~
Sun Systems 10 switchable ballast
Sun Systems Yield Master II 6" classic
14'x6" duct
3x120mm panaflow high output pc fans
HP slimline power supply
clip on auto fan
400w MH & HPS bulbs

You are more than welcome to post comments/suggestions of any kind but please remember im new to this, dont be harsh.

Ohh and i forgot to mention, its been 7days now under the light & 11 out of 12 have sprouted. I water about every other day & mist the foliage twice a day top and bottom. The light dries the cups faster then the plant can use the water which is fine, at least i know they wont drown. They are under the 400w MH 24/7 as i dont have a grounded timer to run 18/6. As i understand it, the plant is only active for 18hrs out of the day whether or not the lights are on but would rather not try to remember @ certain times to turn the light on/off.

Just ordered from HTG Supply ~
Surge protector with built in timer
25 more 2gal grow bags
Second temp/humid sensor
1gal of big bloom
8oz Purple Maxx
8oz Snow Storm

I havent decided yet whether to use the purple maxx or the snow storm, from my understanding while using the snow storm from the beginning it can sterilize the male pollen if i decide to keep a hermie in the closet *if in fact I have 1* but a friend of mine uses purple maxx in his 20'x20' walk in. He grew 25 BBxAK w/ & 5 w/o purple maxx, there was a huge difference in size and density. He also grows on 5'x5' flood/drain tables, thats not nearly the same as soil based medium.

what do you think? purple maxx or snow storm?

Alright, i must be doing something wrong... its been 8 days since i planted the seeds and i still have tiny seedlings...

I noticed today that a few of the small seedlings have the tips of their leaves curled over so i raised that beast of a light away from the seedlings in hopes that this was the problem.

how far away should i keep a 400w MH?

Hey man. Thanks for stopping by my thread. Although I don't grow in dirt, I don't put my seedlings under the big lamp until they have three sets of real leaves. My AK-48 seeds took about 2 weeks from germ to get there. I think raising the light will take care of that problem. What temperature and RH are you averaging in the box? My seedlings like it in the 75F - 85F range with 50% + RH.

Other than that, your set up is nice and clean!

Good luck with your grow!

my acuright reads 84F 79F-86F and humidity is 26% 25-34. I noticed it would stay warmer when i left the door to my bedroom closed. I compensated by opening a door on either side of my room and turned on the celling fan. It hasnt moved above 84F since starting the seedlings.

How am i going to raise the RH? i noticed it was low compared to most others and i even tried putting some extra water in the catch pan but no luck
the light is now 18" away from the top of the cups

Lights and temps should be good. I bought a cool mist humidifier for like $25.00US and it works well. You may want to hang a damp rag in front of your fan. If you can't do that, misting them a couple of times a day seems to help my seedlings.

Good luck man!

The rag has been hung for a while however didnt do much, only changed the RH 1% so i went with plan B

Filled the tray i have the clones in with those clay beads i had sitting around then added some water. Humidity is going up quickly now :-)

the closet is currently 81F RH 39%^

The power of Hydroton! Is there nothing it cant do? My tent RH goes up nicely when I add it to my tray.

Replied to your PM......

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got my box from HTG and switched the lighting of the plants to 18/6 from 24/7

I hooked up another temp/RH digital meter, i taped the probe half way up the cabinet out of the direct light. It reads 77F 49%RH as the other in the direct light reads 84F 32%RH
The back left 3 plants are still the healthiest. Im sure this 400w isnt helping so for future veg im picking up a daisy cloner and a t-5 setup.

I go 1 plant *bottom left* thats just curling up. another is pretty far behind, just a speck of green on top of the soil however oddly enough it has its first set of leaves and they look healthy.

How's the new lighting treating you?

Well so far so good! I moved the light up a bit more the day i added the timer and just giving them that 6hrs without light they seem to be doing much better. As of today i just did some topping off on the cups and started feeding. mixed 1/2gal w/ 1tsp grow big and 1tbl big bloom. For about 6hrs after the feeding all the tips of the plants were stretched out now you can see a slight curl on the tips of some of the leaves. Got them all amped up like a crack heads first hit lol

The plan for now is to keep the 3 biggest ones and sell the others *or give them away perhaps* if I end up getting the ebb&flo together in the next few weeks i will cut some clones off the 3 and finnish flower in soil while the others prep for hydro!

On another note, im almost finished with my new display cabinet. still need to reposition the lights, paint the bottom piece to match, and make a vinyl for the top portion i left out in the pic. It was in rough shape when i got it but nothing a saw cant fix

hey man how long did it take your your seedlings to sprout. Im growing out ak-48 too and its been almost 2 weeks and nothing. I'm also growing out querkle and chocolop and they both sprouted most of them in a week and Im just wondering if its just a slower sprouting strain or if they sent me a bag of lame beans

Well they were slow but not that slow... within a week all but 1 had sprouted and it never did. Im sure if you sent them an email and explained the situation they would most likely send you a new batch. sorry to hear of your misfortune with Nirvana, so far i havent heard too many negative things about their seeds

yeah this is the first time I've used nirvana one sprouted with the seed still on the plant and couldn't get it off whithered and died it was hella wierd. I've never seen that before

I had a few that the seed grew out of the ground but i gave it enough time to strengthen before i took it off the stalk

I never took it off the stalk it just shrivled up and died really wierd too. Idk I think I just got a bad batch or something because everything else that I got from them is looking awesome Thanks for your help

Your plants look great! I could not see any appreciable leaf tip issues from your feeding.

The cabinet is very nice. Can you tell us a little bit about each of the pieces?

no problem Dr.GreenBud, I hope you are compensated for your loss

my glass from top left to bottom right
Dale Sommers bubbler
small graffix zong
salt slide
harmonic inline AC
Dale Sommers sherlock
toro 13arm stemless reinforced with shower head AC
Big graffix zong
roor straight tube w/ illadelph extract slide

There isnt anything special about the graffix tubes, thin glass, cheaply made, however my very first tube in middle school was a graffix zong that got broken so i found a place that had a large and small of almost the identical bong :-)
The Dale Sommers pieces & the salt slide came from Las Vegas @ a glass trade show called Champs
The illadelph extract slide & glass matches i picked up @ harvest festival this year in hancock NY
The roor i got from a friend, that along with the inline AC & a glass on glass roor steamroller not pictured
I have a killadelph w/ matching bubbler on order but waiting for illadelph to blow and ship is a waist of fucking time!awesome glass but a slow damn company! So my impatience lead me to purchase the toro... still waiting for illadelph but im not holding my breath anymore...

As of this morning everything still looks great. When i mixed the last 1/2gal for feeding it was 1/2 the doses stated on the foxfarm feeding schedule however this time around i raised it 1/2gal water 1tsp grow big 1tbl big bloom. I am feeding with every watering not to shock the plants.
