ok i got this hella of a deal of a 400watt hps flood light. Only 80bucks, the problem is though that is suppose to be hardwired to a fuse panel or something. The specs say i can use 120volts and 4.3amps. does anybody know how to wire something like this??

thank you. this will be alot of help!! oh and shouldnt it say "Mrs. Ganja" not Mr. Ganja. hahaha

edit- ok well that did help but i still have some questions. i just want to be safe and not fry myself tomorrow when i hook this up. If i take a computer cord and cut the female end off then hook it up black with black, white with white, green with ground. It says 120 volts at 4.3 amps. how do i get it to go at 4.3 amps or does that happen in the box?? or do i have to wire up a fuse panel or something?

the ballast will pull 4.3 amps at 120vac, at 240, it would pull 2.15 amps.....

the amps are the push behind the voltage, the amount of current. you only need to know how to wire it up ;)

and yep, a pc cord will work, white white, black black, green green, make sure you have the 120v hooked up to your hot wire (white) if it's a multi tap ballast (120, 208, 240, etc)

Why watse a pc cord go to the hardware store and for $1.99 get a 3 prong 15 foot orange cord and cut the end off and wire it together with wire nuts.I assume this light has a built in ballast and isnt a 400 watt halogen security light or the usualy sodium vapor bulb security lights you see at most home depots or lowes?

Ok was just curious I see the old style sodium security lights and the halogen light all the time at the store they have like a 6 by 4 inch steel box with sealed glass on the front and the pebbled reflector shield inside. You can always tell byt he bulbs though lol.I just did a tutorial on how to wire a plug to a commercial light fixture to have it be corded instead of hardwired.Had pictures and a how to

Sorry for the hi-jack, but I also have a security style HPS with a dimpled reflector. I've managed wiring it to a wall-socket plug. My question is, would it be wise to disassemble the light and build it up from it's component parts into the more traditional style growing light with ballast and bulb separated?

Most respect.
