I'm doing this for research purpose.

If one is to have a ballast that is rated for 430watt hps, do you HAVE to use 430watt light? or can you down grade slightly to a 400watt light on that ballast?

thank you

yep you can even use a 360 watt ive used a 400 watt bulb on a 1000 watt metal halide ballast, it fucking worked but i didnt run it for too long as i feared a fire but was kool though ran for 2 weeks before i switched it.

Slightly different question, but would a 430w bulb be safe on a 400w ballast?
yes and its confirmed u can get an agro 430w for a 400watt ballast

BUT

430 watt ballasts are cheaper and because a 430w bulb can go in a 400w ballast we want to know if a 400w bulb can go in a 430w ballast?

I sure would like to know the answer to that too. I'd like to maybe drop down to 600 watt bulbs (from 1000W) in the middle of summer here as it gets way too hot. I'll just grow less but i'm sure the room would run a lot cooler than it did last summer. I just don't want to get more ballasts. I don't mind buying a few extra bulbs if this would work. If nobody knows, maybe a call to salvania or one of the big lighting companys would be in order. I'm sure they must have people that sit there all day and answer questions like that. I would call tomorrow if I had phone access where I work. I could use my cell phone but its too noisy. Anyone else would be appreciated.
