hi do you think its better to have 48 hours dark before harvesting or do you think the extra light is better ??

i think it will make no difference but i will probably do turn them off tonight

It makes no difference. The 48 hours of darkness is just nonsense Stoner Science.
To legitimately pronounce that "it makes no difference" you need to provide credible evidence

I think dispelling dark period's myth status would require presenting some legit lab work.

Your starch theory makes sense but i question the predictability of that outcome with so many dynamic variables. I wonder if there are studies of other crops testing for active compounds using the darkness hypothesis.I think with the evidence we do have about effect on starch (and other photoassimilates), it should be upgraded from "myth" to "potentially legitimate." I guess that is what I was trying to convey, not that it's fact but also not that it's myth, there isn't enough data either way yet.

I haven't seen (but also haven't looked for) research on effect on compounds of interest from a dark period, like cannabinoids and terpenes, though "dark reactions" and "light independent reactions" are good search terms to use.

I don’t know about 48 hours dark and I don’t do it. But in Ed Rosenthal’s drying tutorial he suggests a low level of light throughout the hang dry time. I don’t do that either but there it is.

I'm not going and digging up the results right now, but they have been posted before. The dark period has the potential to increase levels by 1ish %. I personally havn't had the lab results done, but other growers have. Most people just choose to harvest before the lights come on for the day.

I have tried the dark period, and saw now noticable difference from other clones grown at the same time but not given the dark period. The only place you MIGHT notice any difference is in an actual lab test. Not from smoking it.

Anecdotal evidence both supports and refutes the dark period.

There are so many unknowns about cannabis botany. Dismissing something as "stoner science " using stoner science =

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe that they are smarter and more capable than they really are. Essentially, low ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence.

I'd be interested in reviewing peer reviewed lit that investigates this topic. If you come across it please link it up.

What part of "other growers have done the lab testing", don't you understand. I've seen the lab tests, well pictures of them. Why would someone lie and show fake tests or whatever? I'm not sure how long you've been growing or researching the cannabis plant, but I can tell you how long I have been. My first grow was in 2005, and I've been busy at it since always trying to learn more. So if you have something beneficial to add to this conversation please do.....

It's cute you think you are so smart perhaps you are dealing with the Dunning-Kruger effect?

You are dismissing someone who has offered you fact-based opinion, not just anecdotal experiences. I do know the difference :). I also don't consider myself any more then slightly above average intelligence. I've worked hard for years learning about the cannabis plant and growing 1000+ in the last 10 years. I don't know it all, but I have learned a good bit.

I stated that the dark period had validity, and wasn't just stoner science as it happens, but that the level of return has been tested to be negligible in the big picture. So I wasn't "Dismissing something as "stoner science " using stoner science". You obviously have excellent reading comprehension though smart guy ;).

interesting reads and thoughts. y out come is it might make a difference but at the end of the day it will still smell and smoke fine if the plant is grow correctly and cured
