48 hours darkness ??

Just don't do the 48-72 hours of darkness at harvest. Give those women the 12 hours of light they need so they can continue to produce resin.

If you choose to practice this myth you need good air flow and possibly a de-humidifier.

Use an AC unit to bring fresh air in you want the plants soil to be dry and the room to be practically refrigerated. Anyone who tells you darkness before harvest is not better has clearly never done it. Not only is it scientifically proven but you can easily prove it yo yourself by doing it to one plant and not the other. Being afraid of change is a growers worst enemy.

Yeah that 48 hour ish is pure bologna and to think people do this to force flower too and come back like "is this a banana?"

Have you guys ever tried it? Or are you just talking cause you think you know? I happen to know very well that it does work and I also know why.. But I am also sure your plants look nothing like mine or you would not be arguing something as obvious as the benefits of cold and dark prior to harvest. DSC01093.jpgDSC01225.jpg

I flush and water the crap out of them to fill the stalk, buds and branches so when I hang upside down I get the good stuff in the buds. Never tried the 48 hour thing but you could stab them 24 hours before at the base of the stalk, drive a knife right through it, makes the plant produce a lot of juice to the trichs just like adrenalyn runs through our body when we are hurt. Do it in the morning so the light works the plant all day than harvest in the am.

I do not mutilate my plants at all and have found it highly beneficial to allow the soil and stems to dry completely before harvest. There is nothing inside the stems that needs lubricated out by last minute watering or by hanging extra wet plants. But here is the science behind why cold, dark before harvest is a good thing from one of my other posts.

  • I am stuck on these darkness threads now because I am shocked that no one knows the reason why this works. I must be the only one who reads scholarly journals on growing....

"Light energy has been collected and utilized by the plant in a long series of reactions resulting in the formation of THC acids. Farther along the pathway begins the formation of degradation products not metabolically produced by the living plant. These cannabinoid acids are formed through the progressive degradation of THC acids to CBN acid (cannabinolic acid) and other cannabinoid acids. The degradation is accomplished primarily by heat and light and is not enzymatically controlled by the plant. CBN is also suspected of synergistic modification of the psychoactivity of the primary cannabinoids, THCs. The cannabinoid balance between CBC, CBD, THC, and CBN is determined by genetics and maturation. THC production is an ongoing process as long as the glandular trichome remains active. Variations in the level of THC in the same trichome as it matures are the result of THC acid being broken down to CBN acid while CBD acid is being converted to THC acid. If the rate of THC biosynthesis exceeds the rate of THC breakdown, the THC level in the trichome rises; if the breakdown rate is faster than the rate of biosynthesis, the THC level drops." (page 4:cool:

Read a book before you tell people they are wrong when they are only trying to help. It is not helpful to seem sure of things you are not. Removing the plant from the light and heat allows for the THC breakdown rate to decrease by slowly the conversion of THC to CBN. If we could grow a plant in the dark it would have astronomically high thc levels.. but the closest we can come is a few days of dark coldness at the end when there is little to no plant growth left. The plant does not need light to continue metabolic processes.

Tried it twice (should have learned the first time), does nothing good for my harvest.
Myth busted

Yeah it doesn't work if the plants are not in the cold also. That is the part people are forgetting to do. You cant let the plant drought and you can't let them be hot and humid.

However it is a pretty advanced grow method and if you are not pushing your limiting factors then this is probably unnecessary in your grow

first time i tried this i lost 48 hours worth of light, which could have went towards making slightly bigger buds.I is true that trichomes grow in the dark but there is a limit if it wasn't then i'd put it in there a week or even more.I'd rather harvest 1 1/2 oz of something 20%+ in thc than 2-3 oz of something 16% thc but since this is only a myth i don't.Nothing grows w/o light even what grows in the dark cause it uses energy stored from light.12 hours worth of energy is gonna run out before 48 hours
