4k in a 8x8 grow tent?

Howdy ya'll,

Question. Would running 4k in a 8x8 grow tent work? With atleast a 13,000 btu a/c. Air cooled hoods.

24 plants in 5 gallon w/Coco.

Yea definitely. 1000s work great over a 4x4 area. I would up the AC a little to be safe and stay away from portables

You guys are awesome. I was getting a couple comments from ig saying it would be way to hot with 4k in 8x8.If not portables for the tent. What would you use? I can't do minisplit.

You can use a window ac and either put the tent right up against the window and have the ac blow directly into the tent, or you can rig up the window ac to some ducting to blow the air directly in the tent.

The first option works best, you will definitely have no heat problem if you have a window ac directly in the tent. Just cut a hole in the tent the size of the ac and seal the tent around the ac. That would be the most efficient way to keep it cool, those portables might have a hard time keeping up

Oh I get you. That's a good idea. What about if I wanted to vent the lights out the window?

Box the window out with plywood and 2x4. Its what I do to all my windows in my rooms. You can have the ac on the bottom and the ducting for the lights on the top. It also makes it so no light gets in or out through the windows. Mainly used for when you grow in the whole room but it would work well in your situation.

Why don't you just set the whole room up instead of using a tent? Its so much nicer growing in a whole room, easier to control the environment and more space to work in.

Yeah that would work with the 2x4 covering the window. I could do the whole room. But, I'd like to use the tent for added protection against any smell. I live in a detached townhouse with the other units right nextdoor.

Thats a tough one, your going to have problems complete eliminating the smell from a 4k no matter what you do. Definitely make sure you get a good carbon filter / fan combo.

Last question. If I go with the window unit. Would the odor leak through the unit? And I was planning having a good carbon filter with fan exhausting the lights. With an extra filter and fan on the ground just to scrub either inside or outside the tent.

Yes window units definitely exchange a little air with the outside and give off some smell. I have almost all mini splits now, but before I use to put a flat carbon filter on the ac to help with the smell. They make 1" thick carbon filters that you can cut to size for what ever application you need it for. Imo no matter what you do with a decent sized room your going to have some smell. Even with a mini split and a huge carbon filter I can still smell it out side the room in full on flower. Harvest time is the worst, nothing you can do about it. Theres ways to cut down on the smell but you will still get some wiffs of it

I don't have any grows actually inside of my house, all out buildings and buildings just for grows. But I can smell them standing out side of the building in full flower
