Your the "Box Man" A weed growing tune carrying lyrical poet. I have been reading some more things on how HID is wayyyy better than CFL's. These folks havent seen your grow. Nice man,,seriously nice work.
I agree, CFL's are just as good as HID. The only reason I ever got HID was. Cause I got tired of moving the lights and plants so much.

But I have to say that the CMH I got is not that much hotter than CFL's would be. For me its easier to cool one bulb than 4-8. But I still have a CFL. Going with my HID!!

CFLs also produce better quality bud, and CD is in for some banging as quality with this harvest!

Yea bro, HID setups highly outweigh in benefits compared to CFLs. BUT. You don't see any rise in power, with CFLs. You've seen what CFLs and a green thumb can do, and barley put a dent in ya power. If i had the choice, i'd prolly go right to HID, probably HPS, 600w and up. But that will take a good chunk of power to operate. I love my CFLS, and i'm cheap on money. So I'll prolly stick with CFLs for a while.
Not to argue or anything like that, but CFL's use more power than HID's. When you buy a 26 watt CFL, that's how many watts the light is. That doesn't take into account the ballast, the base of the bulb. If you look at the base of the bulb it will say amps used and volts used. You multiply volts X amps to get watts. I did the math on my 100 watt HiD and ballast and compared it to CFL's, taking into account size differences and so forth, and overall the HID was more efficient. They just can't shrink the ballasts on HID's to fit in the base of the bulb!

So I am here at Walmart and I did the math on a 23 watt CFL, and it actually uses 27.6 watts.

Hope you don't mind me posting all this CD! I want to make sure everyone is accurately informed!

The buds are looking real nice

I hear you gumball. I would love to have the room to do a comparison grow with this same strain. It is on my list of things to do some day. I would love having one fixture only to have to adjust etc...but for now its just not in the cards.

Thanks for posting..I always love to see constructive point/counterpoint discussions.

That is some good info!! so if eighteen 23W bulbs put out 414W but draw 497W. I am curious, how many watts does a 400w HID draw including ballast?

does it matter if it is a digital or not?

LoL. thanks gumball!! its not just the space issues for me, it was a matter o f choice. i wanted to see what i could do with cfl's and now i know, and im very happy with them. i have managed to get everything worked out for growing in a cardboard box with cfl's and computer fans and i wouldnt change anything right now, i like my little setup very much and am very happy where im at with it. now thats not to say i wouldnt want to do a bigger grow, but for now, its great!!

i think around 458 watts. Look at the input watts. I am not sure why the math doesnt always work out.

your little setup does work perfectly for you. and when you first started you did have more time on your hands to tend your garden and lights. I am sure now with work you probably find it to be a bit more work with the lights. but obviously not enough to cause you worry!!!

well, its been 7 weeks of flowering now for these 2 girls and there looking great. rocky got its last nute drink today and now will get only straight water from here on out till she's done. choo should take about another 3 to 4 weeks and will keep getting her nutes for at least 2 or 3 weeks. grassy is doing great and i cant wait to start flowering her, i know she's ready to start busting buds for me, LoL. i cant transplant her yet because the 3 gallon bucket i have for her is to big for the veg box. heres the pics!!

i still have time, but since budding, i havent had to mess with the lights that much, i just water them and watch the buds get bigger, LoL. this whole deal is pretty low maintenance and i enjoy the hell out of it.

hey CD, everything is looking excellent bro. that second to last pic is GREAT! beauteeeful bud. also man, i JUST installed the "true air odor eliminator" -- the exact same one you got (except i was over charged at the hardware store, but oh well). so far it seems to be working for my vegging plants... but i'll know for sure tomorrow when i get home from work, that's the true test lol. do you have it on a timer or just running all the time? anyway thanks for the suggestion +rep!

Your veggin' plants have an odor besides that of a normal houseplant? Of the 15 or so plants I have now they are all in Veg in one room and all I smell is... nature... seriously now that I sit here and take a good whiff all I smell is fortified organic potting soil... reminds me of the farms in scotland, get up early you can smell it on the fog... wow stoner moment off topic main thing is.. your vegging plants stink?

hey hippy, i actually love the smell during veg. it's my girlfriend who isn't too happy about it :/ . it's not a skunky smell like you get during flowering, but it's still a distinct cannabis smell. that's why i'm starting with odor control now. so far the trueair things seems to be working, so keeping my fingers crossed :)
