Hi there. I feel I can give a fair opinion now that the buds are in cure. Dr. Greenthumb's Iranian Auto: Harvested July 4th after 9 and a half weeks flowering; air dried for 9/10 days with roots attached and occasional mistings then 8/12 days in double paper bags and when ready, into canning jars where they have resided for about the last two weeks...these buds are not fully cured but are very smokable; the buds are dense and take a cure well, now turning rock hard, surprising finger pressure needed to misshape buds and that old crispy shake makin' crack/crumble feature is seemingly nonexistent, as if the cell wall structure is thicker/stronger than I have before encountered; I am personally disappointed in the potency but the rest of our small senior group that also includes two caregivers were all wows and smiles and praises. On a 1-10 scale I rate the potency as a solid 7.5 and think an 8 rating would be a stretch...the others in our group haven't been polled but I'm sure they'd all rate it higher. This strain is pretty slow in coming on (100% Indica) but has a pleasant initial face glow and after 5 or so minutes I find myself very solidly stoned but with no rush anywhere along the way. This strain fails my 2 hit and 3 hit tests, it takes me 4 or 5 tokes to get a good rolling buzz going. Again, trying to make this a fair report, I am a more experienced smoker than the rest of our group, having started toking in the mid '60s. Taste and smell?...different story. A triple WOW! doesn't do justice to the now emerging tastes as this stuff cures. The initial run-of-the-mill sweetish grass/straw taste is now a wonderfully exotic mix of fruits and mints and sweet pine that varies from plant to plant even amongst the same phenotype. Among these harvested Iranians, the unanimous group favorite is from the plant we nicknamed "Limey." Strong lime taste on the inhale, heavy sweet hash taste on the exhale. This Iranian strain WILL plaster a smile on your face. We had a running battle with mildews and molds starting early in week 3 of flowering until harvest. Here, the average rainfall is more than an inch per week all through spring and summer so we will need to have a good prevention program if we decide to grow an early crop next year and we will also need to find information rating disease resistance among strains. Some of these buds are very voluminous, in a couple of cases an ounce will almost fill a half gallon jar (picture attached). This smoke is not pretty but a good part of that I attribute to the fungus attacks. Productivity: This year being an experiment, we were blandly hoping for one ounce per plant from these Iranian Autos. We germinated 7 of our 11 feminized Iranian seeds and all 7 popped but one was a mutant and was eliminated early. From the 6 remaining plants we finished with approximately 12 ounces of bud with the smallest plant producing only about a thin ounce and the biggest plant producing just shy of 3 ounces. Of course these figures would have been larger without the fungus fight. I believe I know our group well enough to take the liberty to speak now for us all: We were impressed with this strain's stability (not much variation in growth rate, size, response to toppings, etc.) and it's hardiness...sort of mistake proof, it takes a good bit to stress or kill these girls. Synopsis: Although the Iranian Auto is supposed to be technically not an autoflower, we grouped it with 10 autoflowering strains for purposes of comparison. All were harvested this spring and summer. Our two favorite auto strains were the G13 Labs Auto AK and Dr. Greenthumb's Iranian Auto and as a distant debated 3rd place favorite, WOS auto NLXBig Bud. Both the AK and the IA were the most productive and most potent, most all the other autoflowering strains that we harvested had serious potency and leaf-to-bud ratio problems. I am going to recommend that next year we shy away from autos completely and stick with regular strains. I have high hopes for 4 Dr. Greenthumb IranianXG13s which are now close to harvest. When sampling these G13 crosses, they already have a similar exotic taste to the IA and in addition a great sativa ass kickin' head rush high...smile, my favorite. I'm sure we'll again try some Dr. Greenthumb genetics but not until we've gotten the straight dope about disease resistance and some recommendations from the man himself.
My apologies for not using the correct format for this smoke report but I don't know how to do it.
Thanks
