im planning to upgrade from 2x 23w 6500k from my last grow to a higher wattage on my future seedlings. are 4x 24w enough or 6x 24w better or overkill?
on my first grow they stretched abit on 2x 24w 6500k i have the Y splitters and planning to buy a surge protector extension cord to plug them in..
i think i wont upgrade to 45watters coz i want the lights to be spread out evenly like under t5's
im planning to sprout 6-10 seedlings again..[indica strains this time]
btw im gonna be using the Philips brand they dont have 26watters

watcha think?

First question you have to ask yourself is, did the last grow provide you with enough medicine? If not then yes you diffenately need more light. I'd say 6 is a bare minimum, but you have to start somewhere. I myself run 16 - 23w. Now for a little friendly advice. 1st 6500k are good for vegging, but you want 2700k for the flowering cycle. You really want a mix of both, if you can afford it. I run 12 - 23w - 2700k and 4 - 23w - 5000k in the flower room. In the veg room I only run 5000k. Now with more lights come more heat. You want your temp. around 75 - 78 degrees. As for wattage I would stay with 23's, you get 2 for the price of one 42w. Plus you get more watts and lumens. And with the y splitter you get more coverage, since haveing anything more than 6" away from the bulb is not recomended. The closer the better, With the males, unless your breeding or makeing more seeds for yourself I would'nt flower them, as far as light go's the more light the healther the plant, the healther the plant the better the product. They say you wast to have 50w or 6,000 lumens per sq. foot.

Good luck and happy bong hits:eyesmoke:

oh i forgot to mention the CFL's are just for the seedling stage 2-3 weeks in my case  i use 400w MH & HPS for the rest of the grow
coz i tried using straight MH on my bagseed test grow and they didnt grow well in fact, just one survived but grew stunted dint even pass 7 inches so i figured HID's are overkill for day-old seedlings

btw for the 2nd question, im planning to make beans of my own with the pistil brushing technique:-P
coz ive read somewhere that males dont need much light so might as well flower them in a separate room to avoid "problems"

the biggest problem i run into is heat from the cfls cause the seedlings have to be so close as not to stretch. if you put a fan on them then 6 would be ok but i've had good results with with 3 23w for 4 seedlings

for seedlings 96 watts will be more than enough. ive got only 15 watts per seedling, and theyre fine, theyre tiny they can only absorb so much light.

when they enter veg though, youll need 50 watts per plant, then when they get big like 75-100 per plant

thanks guys! i think il stick to 4x 23w and see how it goes.. btw i vegged my 1st grow using 400w MH but for 60days to grow some nice sidebranches (its fcking hot where i live so the growth is slower. nothing i can do now just running an a/c on/off) hope il get more yield than my 1st grow w/c were ok a little more than an oz dry per plant in 3gal pots with only 2 feedings for the whole grow this time il try topping for more main colas and in 5 gal pots using chem nutes and co2 on the side *cross fingers*
