4x4 W/ 400w HID

Just wondering what challenges I might run into with a 400w (Open bulb gullwing) HID in a 4x4 tent. I'm looking at getting an LED, but I'm gonna work this for a bit. Thanks.

Not enough light. Heat. A 400w HID is good for about a 2.5 x 2.5 area. 6.4 sq/ft.

1000w HID is good for a 4 x 4 area.

If you can swing it. When you get the money get a Mammoth 680w Mint White LED. Also has Dimmer Switch. Has a 435nm-730nm light spectrum, and uses the new EVO Samsung Mint White Diodes.
Will be available late March. The first run of them, and the 880w Mint White quickly sold out.
680w costs $800, and is 2006 umol.
At full power, and at 12in, it will cover a 5 x 5 area. Light distribution to the outer edges is very good.

Plenty of people run 600s in 4x4s , obviously 1000s will outperform.
400s are too weak for great results in a 4x4 assuming it's wall to wall which it doesn't have to be

Regardless of what light you get you still need the same basics.
Extraction for air exchange
Circulation
Filtration if smells an issue

Thank you all. What if I put a 250w LED in there with it? Will heat be a big issue there?

Everything using electricity makes heat.

For most people the heat isn't a massive issue, you just need to use a food extractor and get the heat out of a window or up a chimney

I would put another 400 in there, and duct them with cool tubes on a closed loop. Then have a smaller exhaust fan for the tent itself. Or modify a larger hood to hold two bulbs or something. Maybe even run HPS and MH both for a fuller spectrum. You could drop them down pretty low, and you can't beat the spread of 2 spaced out bulbs, although a single 600 puts out the same amount of lumens.. I would argue you'll get better results with 2x400 than a single 1000. Or even the best LED, lol.
