Holy crap its been a min to win it. After years of CFL growing I have finally started using a 600 watt mh hps in a cooltube. For some reason I cant get the temps to stay below 88F. Using 8Inch inline on cool tube its 500 cfm. Anyone have suggestions as to height. I read on cerv that 3x3 should be 2.5 feet from canopy is that still the case?:eyesmoke::finger::eyesmoke: Bad experience with Herbies so I've gotten beans from seedsman. I never thought I would spend 120.00 on auto and not have a single survivor. very bad. 100 percent germ was nice but def not good genetics. This grow is royal brand mix should be fun LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!!007.jpgimagesCAF9ZF46.jpg

I'm new to growing but just had a quick question. why dont you use only the 600w for now and flip on the cfl's in a couple weeks when its getting some leaves to absorb more of the rays?

yep, first off, turn them tubes off, they don't do any good, atall, and as it is summer and the outdoor temps is relative high (atleast in my part of the world) the only way to get em down is with a AC, in other words, you can use a million cfm and still have 88F if the ambi temperatures is close to 88F

consider to switch around night and day and run the light at night (made my temps drop a few when I used a 600W)

also a pice of ducting to a window can also help

and about distance, when the seedlings are small you shouldn't keep it to close, move it down as the seedling grow

here is a few charts

Ok so from my experience you can get good results vegging only with t5 but its a little slower starting. CFL are great also but you end up using the same amount of watts and the heat can still be a factor without good exhaust and intake. I use a three way splitter and an extension cord and drop it right on top of them for great results. The shitter with CFL is they suck for flowering. I ended up having to have multiple watt multiple spectrum bulbs running and got 2 oz of not very dense headies. The perfect combo would be a 250-400 watt hps for flowering and a four sided flourobox for keeping alive a few good mom strains. I can veg clones for two weeks and immediately flower them and still get a good harvest from small plants... CFL is a great discovery for the culture however they produce very good lumes in such a small radius that you have to constantly be moving and adjusting ..>SOG is cfl love for veg. I went with the 600 because I know that the footprint will get bigger later on and I don't want to keep upgrading and dropping money. Keeping the heat down is now the main priority until harvest. Im also switching to a passive wick system because im lazy and I can.
