5 weeks flowering and no bud

I need help, my plant is 4 and 1/2 feet tall it was in veg for 3 months. I have it under a 400W HPS and its been flowering for 5 weeks on a 12/12 light cycle. Lights on at 6AM and off at 6PM. Nutrients are fine, I am fighting a bit of a spyder mite infestation but it is undercontrol. What can I do.? Also its in a closet no light leaks but I do go in from time to time how bad can it be for the plant to have a spurt of light from halogen lights for 5 mins tops???

Post some close up pictures of the nodes/axilary bud. Those five minutes could be messing with the plants u never know. I would use a green bulb when its nighttime for ur girls.

its the spider mites. they are hell on a plant. they suck all the goodies right out of the plant..

I'm not positive but I think that 5 min of light is probably enough to mess with the plant when it is trying to switch cycles. If you are going in there every dark cycle or every other dark cycle and turning on the lights, it is probably affecting them. Don't interrupt your dark cycles, make sure you do everything you need to do when the lights are on.

its the lights, yes 5 minutes can ruin it! 5 weeks and you should have your buds looking nice by now. STAY OUT! lock the door at 6pm and dont open till 6am.

they say over 60 seconds of light in the dark cycle is too much

I have grown outside for years in my back yard.... If 5 min of light can "ruin a plant", then I would have never gotten a bud due to the street lights in my area. Its not the 5 min. of light....its prob. the spider mites. IMO.

Who the hell are "they"? LOL....60 seconds....Bam!!! Plant dies. 59 seconds ok?

yea lol I grow in a master bedroom and everyday I go into the room and switch fans off and on and close doors to the veg room and flowering room. iv even turned one of my 4 1,000 watts on so that I could cut clones when it was dark. I have never had a problem. just make sure your plant starts to flower then you can relax

I think it's more like light intensity. When the sun is out say your getting 9,000 lumens per sq foot, when the sun goes down your getting 100-500 lumens... if that. Doesn't necessarily have to be pitch black for the hormonal process to kick in. But.. yes if you are disturbing the dark photoperiod often then I would say you might be pissing them off.

I agree a street light intensity diminishes so quickly, and I really don't think anyone was actually suggesting that interrupting light cycles cause instant plant death JJBurnOut. Lets try and be constructive, 5 min every other day will absolutely affect a indoor plant. Just use a green light as I said before if u must work during the night cycle.

Wow thank you for all the responses. It's a little tuff changing to green lights, I actually still use the closet for clothes lol and the light fixtures are MR16, I guess I can just hang a green light?. But I think I will take a suggestion from one of the replies and just get what I need for the night and stay out til morning. Yeah those spider mites are killer but I tried using this Ortho Ecosense insecticidal soap as well as using another Ortho Ecosense insecticide for mites and I don't know what happened I used them in combination with three of my fully grown plants and it killed two of them and left the other one half dead. It was amazing the plants just dried up in less than a day! no matter what I did, I tried washing them down, changed the nutrients to water but all my efforts turned them into twigs :-(. So now even though I know spider mites are evil, I am just spraying water on the foilage to make it humid enough to control them. At least for this one plant. I'll try to post some pictures but unfortunately my camera phone is all I got, the quality might be poor.

they dont sell it any more but if you can get your hands on sum avid it will fuck those mights up real quick. wear gloves and a mask when using.

Maybe it's the strain when it comes to the light thing but I've never had a problem doing that kind of thing. I would say mites
