50/50 perlite vermiculite

We've germinated seeds and placed them in six inch pots with 50/50 perlite/vermiculite.

Is this a good ratio, we're finding the mxture is too light and is not holding enough moisture????

Also, is it important to have water with a PH level of 5.5 to 5.8 at this stage of growth?

Using 54 watt T5 bulbs what would the recommended height above the top of the plants be? 2, 4 8 inches??

Are you doing drain to waste ?

Giving water and letting it run out of the bottom of the pot ?

I run 75 % perlite 25% verm in hempy's (2 inch rez in bottom of pot)

When I water the PH is at 6.0

In this kind of media you can let ph run a little high.

And for the T5's prolly 6 - 8 inches. The ends of the bulbs seem to have hot spots so dont let leaf get that close.

at a 50/50 your not retaining enuf moisture? must have a lotta roots mass. that is a small container though. even 2 gals do need to watered every other day when plants are established/flower.

for me....that ratio mix would be to wet. I have been growing hempy in 4 gal/4.25 gal and 2 gal containers.

i think the better combination is 2 gal containers, with a diy fabric pot made from weed preventer inserted if yield is goal. But for casual growing and ease of handwatering, the 4.25 gal afford more medium to hold moisture so you can water 3 times a week or so. really depends what your tryin to accomplish.

i have a 2 gal that i drilled a crap load of smaller holes in it. than i hang it in a 5 gal/lid that has had the upper 3/4 drilled like crazy too. Lets air in and still is runoff catch. this eill provide air circulation to the roots and dry the medium out faster. Then i run 75/25 perlite/pro mix. pro mix seems pricy but you get a thick bale 4 like 40 bucks and it will do wayyyyyyy more than a 3.5 cu ft vermiculite bag. so i think the cost is a wash and i think its hands down better so far. I have found this to be a good quality hempy mix that yields good frosty dense nugz.

oh....in my area orchard supply has a kiler 2 cu ft bag of chunky perlite for 11 bucks. Kicks the crap outta the lowes or hd stuff and is cheapper for an extra .5 cu ft. when ya buy 2 bags
