If somebody could take a look at this for me. I've been using it for a while for basic household needs.

I'm wondering if it would be suitable to grow with. I can't find anything on it saying anything about HPS or MH. Just 500 watt max :/

lol i saw those at walmart for like $19.99. first of all, those arent meant to be on for more than an hour or so - they get extremely hot. also, they arent the right spectrum of light. i think its actually dangerous to keep those on for even 12 hours at a time, if anyone would click the link and see what he's using i think theyll agree. there isnt even a ballast, who knows if your electrical wiring will be affected. for growing herb you need to invest a little bit of money..dont try to take the easy way out, i mean atleast some of the people here buy CFLs to use, but i firmly support the use of atleast a 400watt - preferably switchable to get the benefits of both mh/hps, you can find good deals online.

I don't think you want to use Quartz lighting for growing. But check this out. I think it'd work pretty well. If you're looking for a cheap flouro light:
Regent 65 Watt Heavy-Duty Fluorescent Worklight - FCTWL65

I'm thinkin about building a mother box using one or two of these.
I /was/ planning on vegging my mothers with the 500w, but that fluro really isn't much light for a box vegging more then one plant (if that) i would say.

Think I'm gunna just step up my budget and buy a 400w for the mothers and a 1000w for the clones. Trying to work up to a solid SoG sucks on a limited budget.

yeah alot of the kind of lights you have right now do overall more redish in them but usualy just mixed up, that why they use metal halide for blue because it tends to have more blue which is great while your plants are just vegging, and high pressure sodium which has more red for fuller and deeper bud growth and puts out more lumens than MH. your plants need most light when flowering in 12 12 which works great with that bulb. but they have all kinds of different spectrum floresants too, check them out

Yeah thats a quartz or halogen light that isnt good to grow and is like a heat lamp.Blue spectrum is for veg red for flower. Iuse florescent shop lights to veg and grow my mommies. I posted a cheap how to wire a plug to a hardwire commercial 4 tube t8 light fixture.I will post later how to make it an 8 tube setup by adding another ballast and some terminals.Heres a few pics with about 20 plants under this light at around 2 weeks from clone in soil...I know soil is soooo slow to grow lol. This light with cord and bulbs cost about $45
