that picture of me was from 2008, my first full summer in oregon.
earlier in the spring of 2008, some japanese dude working in the silicon forest backed into my wife's car in a walgreens parking lot. as far as i know, oregon is a no fault state and parking lots are private property rather than public roads, so it should have been our job to repair our bumper and the japanese dude's job to repair his bumper.
apparently, the dude just took full responsibility and a claim adjuster was looking at my wife's car the next day. he concluded that the car needed a new headlight, bumper, and quarter panel, and put the estimate for parts and labor at $1500. i bought the parts for less than $400 and put them on myself. we went on a tour of oregon that year with the rest.
that was a glorious vacation. everything went perfect. we fell in love with oregon.
also, that pic was taken by a random stranger at the newport aquarium. we camped on the beach later that night, cooked our own seafood, fucked like wild animals, and have shared a love of camping ever since.
oh, good times.
