Seems like you would have to have ventilation cfl's create heat also and plants like fresh air. I'am new to growing indoors but my little 160 watt cfl veg cab would easily reach 100 degrees in about 2 hours without a fan. With a ambient air temp around 70
I agree ventilation is key; but using a HID vs CFL, you need a much bigger fan to get that hotter air out, thus more noise.

Really the only thing I'd feel safe with at a school is a PC grow case hidden well in a dorm closet. You wont get much, but a couple CFL's, some autoflower seeds and a couple whisper quiet fans might just be your best bet. Steady supply of herb every other month.

i have got a 600 watt lumetek hps but im growing in my wardrobe and havent got enough room or proper ventilation for it which is why im going to using cfl's i just thought that becuase the wardrobe is 6ft i could use its full length to grow a plant the same height

im in an apt and my room mate is going to use the same setup as me but in his room. i say dont have room for ventilation... what i mean is i have room to ventilate 2 250w cfls just not a hps lamp and cooltube with the fan needed aswell.

Damn your in a college dorm. Pc micro grow or small fridge if you got to do it. But who ever is in charge of the dorms will probaly now to look for grows like that. If you tried to gro tomatoes in that wardrobe you would be able to smell them. probaly almost any plant.

What you do is look for places outside to grow. harvest a half dozen plants. Sell them. Rent a place to grow off campus. I now some guys that did this. They stayed in college for like 6 years never worked and drove hummers.

I use 454w T5 for my mothers and at about 4' tall the lower leaves begin to wilt and fall off not enough lumens now if you added some light around the middle of plant then yeah but other wise noPe...( it will grow that high but yield nothing at bottom

Im using 1000w and my plants are around 5' this grow and the bottom buds are small I dont see how you could penetrate with anything less

This thread was kinda funny. Sad too. We got a guy who is going to school to educate himself (that's a good thing), and wants to grow mj in his dorm, which smacks of stupidity! That's about the fastest trip to jail you'll ever make. For the time it takes to grow, and considering the yield you are likely to get, it just doesnt make sense to take that kind of risk. Wise up dude.

we had some of those lights we used 2 of them on 12 small plants. they light ok but we got rid of them t5s are way better. get an 8 bulb badboy and keep your plants short you will get more. the t5 is let watts but the light spread if better.

ps those 250s get pretty hot

MH and HPS is the way to go, 5-6A feet all day the MH in veg she will shoot up big time more then CFL but I’m sure you know that.

Does anyone Understand PAR,I dont understand WHY you would go through all the trouble to spend money for nutrients to feed a part of the plant the will not get much if any lumens.just waisting time in my opinion

Its like buying race fuel fuel(nutrients) to put in your 3cyl geo metro(light) how fast(good)can you really go man...

I dont mean to be rude or anything but i think some people are kinda missing the whole point of this thread. I know that there are way better lamps than CFL's I KNOW THIS. BUT for the space that i have got to work with CFL's are my only option as i have already said. I dont know as much as some people about plants which is why i was asking if it would be better to grow my plants tall or short. As i am a noob with plants i thought that growing them tall would be better.

the cfls you are talking about using will work to grow you some bud but in my opinion i'd go with indica plants that dont grow very tall (as your light source isnt as powerful if you were using an hps).

you want the cfls obviously as close as possible to the plants...so growing a 5ft plant would be a disaster as you dont have enough light to cover the entire plant...best bet is keep your plants 1-2ft at most...keep them short small and compact so you can distribute the light EVENLY over the ENTIRE plant. thats going to give you the best results w/ cfls.

well you're right on point...the bigger the plant you grow the bigger the yield will be in the end...the smaller the plant the less yield you will get.

however to grow a big marijuana plant you'll need a BIG powerful light (ie. hps/mh) cfls work for growing (i used 10 23w cfls to veg for my first grow)...the growth was stable but not very rapid...only about an inch and a half at best a day...i picked up a 600w digital hps system and was able to push them about 4inches a day...over two times better/faster than cfls.

so since cfls are what you're going to have to work with its best to keep them short so the light can penetrate all areas of the plant...if you put a 5ft plant under cfls only the part where the light is will flourish...the rest will be fluffy buds and weak/slow growth.

if you do use those 2 giant cfls i'd advise maybe getting a few 23w cfls in either 2700K (produces a red/orange light) or 6500K (produces a bright blue light)...those two kelvin (K) ratings are ideal for marijuana plant growth. hps = red/orange light...mh = blue light...

so as long as they are 2700K and 6500K you'll be fine (or near there).
hope this helps.

CHBbb420 this guy is the only one I have seen that has Grown any good quality bud with CFL (I WAS IMPRESSED better than some people do with 600w he is one of few exceptions.)

El Comprendo on CFL. If its all you have.. But if its all you choose you really are cheating yourself out of time and product.

I wish the best and have a happy grow.o yeah try coco with CFL will grow faster than soil
