5x9 tent setup help please

hey everyone i have been a lurker for some time now and am almost ready to start my own grow and post it for all the see. my problem is that i'm not sure how to outfit my tent. i have a blackstar 900 watt led light and an oxypro 6 coming from stealth hydroponics. what do i need to include in this tent in order to be successful ( please don't rag on me about the light, i really want to try led ). if anyone out there can instruct me on what type of environmental controls and fans etc that i should be using it would be greatly appreciated. whats a good filter to use for smell? thanks again for any and all help for a noob

Get a good fan and carbon filter before it starts to stink and a small oscillating fan and you'll be good.. I don't know what an oxypro is so I can't comment on that...
Good luck

You should like to whatever an OxyPro is - I never heard of it. Wholly fuck - damn near a grand for that light, been cheaper to just buy a half pound :P You basically just need an outlet timer and a nute system. I'm thinking an oxypro is some kind of prebuilt hydro system, in which case you'll want to figure out how to add water and drain it. The light says it covers 4.5' x 3.5', so I'd make sure your growing inside it's coverage area. Also, the light is for flowering, so you probably want a T5 for veg. You need a PH test kit too. Good luck with your grow.

http://cheaphydroponics.com/Merchant2/cfmcalc.htm to figure the fan. Filter needs to match cfm. You don't need neighbors calling the cops for not having one, or being to small.

Also to help info is very vague what are your plans and such for this? Passive or active intake, What size duct hole you working with, Where are you exhausting, Cool tubes, or open reflectors? Controllers are like diapers, they work no secrets just need to know how to wire them accordingly.. Timers same, you pay for what ya get. How much cash or should I say how little of the almighty dollar are you working with?

Lax google grow light footprint. Then say what you plan to do for lights, 5 x 9 is an awkward area to fill with lights, 2 1k's?. Imho use a magnetic ballast, skip digital. How many plants are planning?

Height of plants pre flower and end height? Are you planing 2 12 fters lsted to fuck, or 40 12 inchers in square pots? All this as well relates to helping set up anything, let alone a prefabbed tent. Not ragging, just need some insight, as well put a list of items you are considering to us. Many here will be happy to pick it apart beforehand.

Maybe restart a new post saying something that will help guide such as this:

Hey I plan on hydro, my room is 3 inches by 3 inches 4 ft tall. I am running 3 1 watt lights with 500 clones, in 3 inch square pots, my fan is going to be 100 cfm the duct will run a 5 cfm filter and exhausted 50 ft into my aunts bedroom. Now I plan to use this or this controller, thoughts? And will be actively pushing 25 cfm into the room.

Obviously I jested on stuff but you get the point, do some legwork and come on back with components.

Welcome derrick, you've come to the right place...

my problem is that i'm not sure how to outfit my tent. i have a blackstar 900 watt led light
We'll help you with that... No problem...LEDs are not yet the preferred light, but KUDOS for trying... I would love to see you make everyone eat their words...

and an oxypro 6 coming from stealth hydroponics.
Again, not my first choice, but it will suit you just fine...

what do i need to include in this tent in order to be successful ( please don't rag on me about the light, i really want to try led ).
You will need a good circulating fan or two, inside the tent... Those fans will keep the air mixed up and make your plant stalks stronger due to the breeze...

Next you will need a good centrifugal fan for your exhaust... I recommend at least a 6" fan & carbon filter combo...

For a 5x9 you might want to consider an 8" exhaust set up...

I say go overkill on the exhaust for a few simple reasons...
A larger fan at 50% will make much less noise and consume much less power than a smaller fan at 100% At any point, you can simply adjust the speed of your fan and deal with hotter days without additional aquip.

if anyone out there can instruct me on what type of environmental controls and fans etc that i should be using it would be greatly appreciated.
One thing that I have come to use and really like is the TITAN Mercury 4 Fan Controller

whats a good filter to use for smell? thanks again for any and all help for a noob
You will need a Carbon filter to match your exhaust fan... 6" fan/6"filter... 8" fan/8" filter...

They usually have a small 6" or 8" and a large...
Go for large...

Your intake should be passive, but it is not a bad idea to have a small carbon filter on the air coming in...

A GREAT THREAD to munch on is Noobs: If you fail to plan... plan to fail! , by Al B. Fuct...

Read it and lets bounce some ideas back and forth...

Did you get a pH and PPM meter with your hydro system?

you will meed one right off the bat... I use the Hanna Grow Check continuous monitor... The probes live in the res, no chance of drying out...

An intake filter for an active (fan powered) intake will be cheaper and more effective than using a carbon filter.
Intake filters are designed to keep out pollen, dust, mold and bugs... carbon filters are for smell.
Just google "intake filter hydroponics", you'll see.

A 9x4x8.6 that I see every day uses a 747cfm fan dialed back to 50%. So, 375 cfm pulling on a 950 cfm Phresh filter.
Phresh filter are super light and super effective... mounting a filter from the celing of the tent can be dangerous with large heavy filters like CAN. From what I hear... much of the weight from CAN is glue used to bind the pellets of carbon and the casing.

Some will say that 950 cfm is way over doing it for a 9x4x8.6 packed full of plants. I disagree. I walk up to a few friends doors and smell it right away. IME, matching a 400 cfm filter to a 400 cfm fan is not very effective during your heavy smell weeks... You can use a reducer to get your larger filter connected to your smaller fan. Or, even better, use a speed adjuster on your larger fan. You can dial in exactly what cfm you want. Also a 800 cfm fan dialed back to 50% is much much quiter than a 400 on full power..

I'm not familiar with LEDs, so I can't help you out much there. One 16 or 18 inch oscillating fan should handle your air circulation. 2 will be better.

I said carbon intake to keep smells out...
thanks for the correction... But I meant what I said.... :joint::peace:
I see you had already made most of my points as well. I should have read closer.

I too like the toned down fan. Vortex 747 at 50% move a TON of air with very little noise.
