6/12 Fast Flowering

I have heard a theory that if you want to flower faster you can go on a 6/12 light schedule. I haven't personally tried this, but I am sort of curious about how well it would work.

Obviously the yield would be diminished greatly, but for those in a pinch would it work?

12/6 meaning that the light is 12 hours on 6 hours off, 12 hours on again etc...

It does require a nicer timer as you can't simply set a 24 timer the way that most of us do.

I know that it's the 12 hours of dark that allow the plant to release it's hormone to begin flowering. It seems that it would be a sound theory, I would just think that 6 hours of light won't produce much growth.

Bust out some opionions or experience with this.

that lighting cycle will give u poor yield as you know. And to little lighting will make u flower time extra longer

when marijuana grows out side and September comes and the light cycle changes marijuana naturally goes into flowering so i dont see how any other light cycle could force flowering

i have red something before about 12 on 6 off 12 on but not 6 on 12 off 6 on
something about after 6 hours of dark they have used up the stored elements required to photosythisize and might as well wake em up for another 12 hrs of light. but i have not tried this as im not convinced that it will work but the theory sounded good at the time that i was reading it.

but with 6 on 12 off 6 on i would expect buds the size of my little toe as when i've cut my light down to 9 hrs strainght from 24 or 18 hrs never got a great result.

6 on 12 off does work. i'll find a thread later, the person i know who tried had the same yeild as 12/12. he has a complete log, start to finish.

true, but then again, look at the veg time, and size of plants before harvest.

There was a post in here a few weeks ago that talked about changing light cycle. I can't remember all of the details. The idea is, you should noit mess with the plants dark cycle, leave it at twelve hours. But, if instead of running 12/12 you run the light for I think it was 21hours 36 min. Then 12 hours off. Back on 21h36m etc. By doing this in a 7 day week the plant will get 5 periods of dark, which is a light period increase of 2 days every 7, or a little over 25% more light. If the plants normally flower for 8 weeks, that 56-12 hour dark periods. Using this method you would need 11- 7 day weeks to match that dark period.
It seems he said this was a sticky on OG for some time and does increase yield. I did ask if he could give some idea of the yield increase and I think he felt I didn't believe it would work. Actually I think this makes more sense than changing the dark cycle to 6 hours.
He explained there is a down side. The lights are always on at a different time each day, so having a regular job might be out of the question.

then the plants only being able to utilize about 6 hours of light is theory? i thought his yeild was low this time because of the factor involved. he had the best setup money can buy but didnt match it with strong vigorous plants. and i dont think he utilized his lights as well as he could have for having them in tubes. i think if he worked on those two things which im sure he will, he will start to get some pretty good results, i honestly dont think the low yeilds is due to the light schedule. but obviously more experiements are needed

i'm old fashion that light cycle is too obvious for people with digital meters, 12/12 is obvious to but when times in a standard day doesn't seem out of place

hmmm, with my problem with the power co, this may be a perfect time for ME to try this. the wierdo light cycle won't be as noticed, as the spikes will be at different times of the day, they shouldn't be able to figure it out as a timer...

i'm going to do some homework, i may try it myself.
