Thanks. I found that the flushing with Azamax and pyrethrum bombs along with meticulous cleaning worked great. We got every last one of the little bugs and no sign has been seen of them since. I have a stash of beneficial nematodes waiting just in case.
Everything is starting to fill out nicely.
Just finished the top boost, so everything should be all bud weight from here on out, no?
Here's the nutrient chart -
We put a trellis net across the canopy, so top heavy colas will have some support from the other plants in the final days of flowering.
TOPS I counted about an average of 15 tops per Chemdog 91 plant growing out of the ScrOG screen. So that gives me about 60 tops of Chemdog 91, give or take.
I counted about 8 tops on the Blue Skunk, and 10 tops on the Blue Cheese. The Blue Skunks' main branch has about 7 inter-nodes nugging up above the ScrOG screen in less than a 4 inch span. Less tops, but that cola is going to be a monster.
AROMA The Blue Skunk aroma has a very sweet and citrus like tinge. Tickles the nose hairs.
The Blue Cheese is skunky.
The Chemdog 91's have a very "common" smell. Nothing bad, but has not stood out.
Trichomes and Hairs
EVERYTHING is COVERD in trichs and is gooey!
Some of the Chemdog's tops hairs are turning slightly orange. Mature, dried, and cured Chemdog 91 is COVERED in orange hairs, so this should be right; to start seeing orange by the start of week 5 flowering?
Thanks all for the encouragement.
Oh, and rosecitypapa, I have two of these plumbed into my aero chamber on the outside:
On the inside, one connects to the pvc sprayer manifold. The other is a drain to recycle:
A pic from an earlier post showing the feed/drain hoses:
Room
Temp: 73 deg
Co2 1500ppm Reservior
temp: 71 deg
1525 ppm
6.01 pH
The Week 5 nutrient batch has made the flowering tops put on noticeable weight overnight.
Orange hairs should vary between strains. I remember back in the old days when people would talk about harvesting when the hairs turned orange. Hairs, trichs, same difference right? haha.
Sorry to hear about your bug infestation. Always quarantine new clones, etc for a couple of weeks! I'm guilty of breaking this rule this week so hopefully I don't end up in the same boat. Bugs .. man oh man .. anything but that.
The roots are growing out of the drain into the reservoir! I have about 12" or roots in the res bubbling around in the nutrient res air stone bubbles. Healthy, white, hairy roots. LOL. I didn't think they would grow out the drain. The roots must be a minimum 5' long to reach that far.
A few of the tops that were dominating the canopy were pulled to the side LST style exposing a quite a few more bud sites to premium light. I decided to trim away a few fan leaves here and there. Most were overcrowding undergrowth, getting poor light, and blocking ventilation. A few select fan leaves that were at canopy level were sacrificed or tucked to keep from shading lower bud sites. I'm being VERY cautions when trimming. Don't want to get clip happy.
I took a few pics with a blue filter effect to help offset the HPS lighting. The color is 95% accurate. A tiny shade of too much blue.
Thinks are looking good?
Well, what can I say, I haven't been too active on RIU. My time has been EXTREMELY limited as of late. I envisioned becoming a prolific poster with inquisition and shared knowledge, but it seems that I must budget my time to other areas.
But I am also never one to start something and not finish it. So here goes my latest update; as infrequent as this grow journal has become.
First...PICS!
There has been so much going on with this grow. We got a white powdery mildew showing up in small patches. Fortunately, we knocked that down because it never got out of hand. Wow, bugs and mildew in the same grow. We're torching EVERYTHING after harvest and starting over on the room. We're going to make a damn clean room environment and have control over the mother strains without outside influence now. I hope that will help avoid our problems the next grow.
I have amber hairs, and trichs that are 10-20% cloudy. I decided to start the week with a new batch of nutrients. I'll probably only run nutrients another 3 or 4 days at the most. Then I'll flush for a good 7-10 days.
Here's a new 1080p vid of the garden:
I think the obvious disadvantage I've had with this grow would be not having my own direct light source. All of the nodes are medical grade, but they are only the size of a golf ball to a marble. I was kind of expecting "pepsi cans".
Not disappointed by any means, I just need my own light. I need to improve my external reservoir design. The root mass is blocking the drain and is causing the pump to drain the reservoir faster then it can recycle.
I've been feeding on a 24hr constant. I think a standard NFT 1 on 4 off timer would correct this. I might even start this when I flush. I figure it will help give the roots more oxygen and I probably should have went that rout at the start of flowering.
I was extremely happy with the vegetative results with a 24hr feed, but again, I firmly believe the root mass will get way more oxygen intake with a cycle timer.
