600W and 400W in a 55x55 tent?

So I plan on buying a 55x55x79 grow tent from htg, I have a 600w and a 400w both air cooled hoods. I was wondering if anyone has put these two in a 55x55 (about 4.5x4.5) grow tent. I'm not too worried about heat since there both air cooled, but maybe it will be too crowded?

I'll be growing kalichakra from mandala and it's done really well with temps in the 90's, but once I move to the tent I will have much more ventilation, so temps should be a little lower.

If I do end up going with this setup, what would be the best grow method to use? I was thinking a scrog to get the most out of the canopy. If I do that how many plants should I use? I'll be growing from clones.

Any help would be awesome, thanks!

I don't know about the scrog method but I would say 6 plants should be just about right. Good luck and May all of your harvests be bountiful.

I've got 3 x 400watt HPS in that very same tent from HTGsupply....check my signature below if you want to see what's up. I plan on upgrading one of the lights to 600watt pretty soon probably so then it'll be 2 x 400 and 1 x 600. If I were you, I would personally go with 2 x 600watt HPS if you can at all afford it. Now this is assuming that you will be buying air cooled reflectors and able to buy a reliable intake fan for cool air for your plants and a seperate inline fan for just your lights.

P.S. if you do go with 2 x 600watt setup you can grow nice tall plants, but if you go with lower wattage in that tent I'd definitely go with either a lot of plants SOG style or about 5-6 larger multi-topped bush-type plants (or scrog) in 5 or 7 gallon grow bags.

SCROG will work fine and 4-6 will work.. I'm leaning toward just LST for mine. Keep us posted and give us pix when it's appropriate.
Good luck!

WOW, 3 400 watters thats intense for the size of that tent haha, but if you can pull it off then I can deff pull off a 400 and a 600. I wish I could do 2 600's but I already have the 400 so I'll just use that. What are the temps usually like with those 3 lights going?

Bro i pulled off 3 x 400watt in open air reflectors for a while when outside air temp was in the 60s, inside the tent was in the mid 70s, but once it got into the 70s outside, i had to get 2 aircooled reflectors and kept the 3rd reflectoropen air. My temps averaged in the mid-high 80's in the tent up until July...and that was with me using outside air to keep things cool, no AC (lights running 12 hours during the Night). That worked up until half way through June, when my outside temp at night was in the 90s. Had to get a portable AC and back her down to just 2 x 400watt. But I just purchased a 3rd coolable fixture, so all 3 are about to be back in business. With the AC, I keep my temps around 86 lights on and 80 lights off.

You can keep everything great temp-wise if you have the tent located inside your house in an air conditioned room obviously much better...garage ain't the best spot, but it's all i got to work with :(

Well thats impressive you must have everything dialed in correctly. I'm currently running just my 600W air cooled in a closet that has a passive intake so temps are in the 90's... not ideal. Once I get my the tent set up it will be in a spare bedroom that can be air conditioned so I'm hoping that even with the 400w addition temps wont be that bad
I'm gonna read your grow journal, and take notes!

Cool dude. If you can at all get a window A/C to keep the room a constant cool temp in the low-mid 70s it would be ideal. Then you could have a cold air intake at the bottom of the tent and then there are 2 exhaust vents at the top. If things get smelly, you can always get a carbon air filter. I had to get one for whenever a smelly strain gets mid-late flowering, cause I have neighbors right beside me. The tent is huge though man. Plenty of room to work around in if you're about 5' 11" like me you can get yourself some ratchets to raise the lights for when you gotta work in the tent.

You are going to have to keep things cool in there. 90s is too high, getting rid of a light or having one come on for only a few hours a day would be better, experiment with that and see how it effects the temps inside the tent, once you get it to the room with AC you should be fine.

i just bought the large 55x55x79 growtent from htg along with a 6 inch 424 cfm exhaust inline fan along with cann 33 carbon filter with 6inch flange, 6ich ducting , a sunsystem 1000 watt xxl dominator hood (cool tube) with ballast and hps bulbs, tent is the flower chamber ! tent will be in a spare bedroom i do have ac in a window should i do a forced air intake with another inline fan or should the passive intake flap opened up be enough i do have a 6 inch booster fan i could put in a bottom port to assist in t he intake of fresh air ???? whats everyone think about this ???? seems we all are in the same boat lol?????
