Are you sure the light needs to be closer.
I have a MH about 9 inches from the tops of the plants.
There is a fan blowing on them.
Can I place the light 6 inches away, it's not that hot and I don't think much heat will be on them.

Put ur hand above the plants and lower the light as far as u can without burning ur hand
I can get the light 3" away doing that. Is that ok?

You may just need to support the stem by building some dirt around it...But yeah, what size light you have would help a lot as to whether or not it should be moved closer.
250w MH HPS interchangable.
Here is a quick picture of how close it is (3-4") without burning my hand or the plants. Is that alright.
The air is moving around them as well which is dispersing the heat.

some seem to lean at different times, i used dirt to fill up the stem and support it or just a nail to push it back a bit. seemed to have worked. i remember when my baies were this small!
