I just noticed I got an anniversary coming up, 7 years on the RIU boards. Thought I'd take a minute and mention how the boards have helped me over the years.
I bought a hydro set-up from a guy leaving the country and made 2 runs at growing in hydro. Both attempts failed miserably and were due 100% to my ignorance. I didn't know enough to make sure the intake grill on my submersible pump was clear and killed the first batch that way. After the second batch also went to heaven I looked around for help and found RIU. I noticed that there were an awful lot of posts from growers having less than successful grows with hydro. Many, like me, were newbys. Like many, I switched from hydro to dirt.
First major hurdle in dirt-growing was figuring out how much to water my new seedlings in dirt. Try looking for a post from someone who gives accurate advice on how much to water. The "answers" are all across the board and didn't inspire much confidence. Finally found a fellow that told me to let the plant answer the when/how much-to-water question. Found a 24-inch bamboo skewer and pushing it into the dirt to the bottom of the pot. When the skewer is removed you can see how wet the pot is by how much wet soil clinged to the skewer. Problem solved.
The RIU boards were a life-saver when I decided I wanted a perpetual grow. I thought my 8 x 8 flower room would support 20 or more flowering plants at a time. Posters predicted I would end up with closer to 10-12 plants flowering and they were right. I saved a ton of money on supplies and a lot of time experimenting because I was able to find a couple of guys who knew their business. From them I also learned that growing in 2 rooms meant my flowering space needed to be 3 to 4 times as large as my veg space. That is the kind of valuable input that makes a difference on harvest day.
Now I clone my way to harvesting 100 plants a year. Just wanted to say thanks to the people who were there when I had questions and were able to help me make sense of what I was trying to do.
Thanks again!!!
