70 watt hps heat

Will the heat from a 70 w hps be difficult to control if growing in a 40 cm x 40 cm x 120 cm darkroom?(No ,I don-t have an extractor ,I use a 12 inch pc cooler at the upper exhaust and it blows air in the same room cause i don t have an exhaust in the wall to blow air to the outside).+rep

I've seen very successful 70w hps grow in computer cases which are almost the same dimensions as your grow area (cubic feet wise). Heat control would not be a big issue in my opinion

if you wire it up so the ballast is external from your growspace then its fine. I gotta couple 70 watters running and they put out less heat than the CFL's i originally had in there.

well i never used a 70w hps but the heat should be minimal (as its wattage is low) heat control shouldnt be too hard. i'd guess an extra fan at most... heat isnt a problem until you move up to 250-400 and beyond...like 70w or 150w wont give out too much heat.

infact i have a digital 600w hps system and compared to the 10 cfls i was using i really lucked out. the ballast on mine doesnt have a fan blowing on it but its only slightly warm to the touch (very slightly...i've felt laptops run hotter). and the bulb doesnt get too hot as long as you have a fan blowing on it. it doesnt get much hotter than with the cfls believe it or not...maybe 5 degrees difference at mos.t

so you should be more than fine with a 70w hps setup.

yeah that was my maiin priority.....hps inside.....ballast outside.......at the moment I have 5 cfl of 30 watts each in 2700 k surrounding the plant......heat is maintained around 28 -30 degrees Celsius.....luckily the tent is in my bedroom so it gets plenty of Co2...........is it wiser to keep them Cfl's (5 x 30 w = 150 w) ...or use a 70 watt hps in 1950 k for better penetration?(6600 lumens it has).+rep

Should I dare for an 100 watter then?my concern is the one I found is in the 1950 k.......

never seen one with that kelvin rating.

you'd be best to get it in the 2700K area (give or take a few hundred either way).

just keep the ballast out from the immediate grow space. i have a digital so i noticed they dont run as hot but i still keep mine as far from the light as possible.

the magnetic ones do run hotter so i would definitely put it outside the grow space (or out from where the plants/light area.

go for the 100...add maybe one more small fan to compensate for the extra heat. have the fan blow DIRECTLY onto the bulb/inside of the reflector at ALL times. this will help insure the temps stay down. at least it works for me.
