8 weeks AK48..what next???

Hey gang,

I think I am almost to the next step....where I need all of your help.

Been flowering a day shy of 8 weeks. She looks pretty nice given how I grew her (12 CFL's, Miracle Grow Potting soil, AK48, water 32oz weekly). She has a sister, a 4' Power Skunk that is still alittle ripe, same age though. Anyway.....

I don't really know what I should do next. I have done alot of reading but I hear flushing, 48-72 hours darkness, hang dry, put them in a brown bag, glass jar, etc. I am sure there are alot of ways to do the next step so anyone that has grown AK48 can you please chime in.

I was thinking at least another week... anyone else with comments please??? I would not want to grow something and then destroy it when chopping and drying.

yea agreed another week .... not sure about flushing i need the same Q answered.... but i kno u should cut her down before your lights come on the next day that way its not pulling left over nutes and sugers into the stalk and leaves ... other than that good luck bro hope shes good let us kno how it turns out .... seems like next grow u need to go a few more lights little more nutrient practice and add wind and air movement to them babies give them stronge beefy stalks to fill juicy buds

And the reason that you cut in the dark or put them in dark for 24-72 hours is because the light will depleats the trichomes and at nite it will replenish so for 24-72 hours it will build trichs without depleating them.

thanks haze2. I have been reading about molassas so maybe i can use it for two weeks and that would be 11 weeks.

My issue is I do not know what to do next. Cut them in the dark, put them in brown bags or hang them upside down? How many days do I do that, figure 3-5 days then put them in a glass jar and store in a dark place? Is that the routine?

Ok I just went through this stage. I would take them out when the lights go off and put them in dark for like 24 - 72 hrs then take and trim her all up and any buds that are small 1/2 gram or less just let them dry and put them in a jar. AIRTIGHT!! Then take all your bigger nugs and hang them up for about a day or 2 checking themevery 12 hrs orso. I would not let them dry till the stems snap, you want just a little moisture in the stem to where it almost snaps but not quite. Humidity needs to be between 45% and 55% no more no less temps keep around 60 - 70. Once you get to the point where they are now almost dry you want to take and put them in an AIRTIGHT jar of some sort I got mine at walmart. Put the buds inside and close them up you will want to burp the jars (open) them pull the nugs out of the jar and let them breath for a good 1/2 hr to an hour then put them back in the jar close them up and put them in the dark. You will repeat this process for upto 4 months its your call. I think a perfect cure is about 1 month thats pretty damn good. You will have to let them burp every 24 hours.

thanks haze2. I have one question however. When you go 'all dark' is that when they are still in the pot or do you cut them down and then do the 7 hours darkness? I figure that you keep them dark for 72 hours then cut them down, correct?

ya id say leave another week or even two. really you could run to radioshack and get a 60-100x scope to check the trichomes, they arent but about 13$ for one. and it even comes with a nifty little lite attached to it.

plant looks like you your ph got a bit low, and your magnesium got locked out. If you havent done so already, definetly give her a good flush, and just let her finish up.

thanks jackinabox. I used Miracle Grow Potting soil and I have not used any nutes throughout this grow. I was thinking maybe a week or two more and using molassas in these two weeks. I only water once a week, 32oz so I am not sure if I can flush (although there should not be any more nutes in the MG since I have been growing for 16 weeks now).

Yes leave them alive and all whie they are in DARK for 72 hrs. The reason we do this is because the trichomes deplete on th plant because of the sunlight, now you put them in the dark so that the trichs DONT deplete thus givng the plant 3 days to produce trichs without any depleting.

I got it and I cant see shit...seems like it is too close I mean I could not figure out what I was looking at.

Indeed it will if you mess up curing. You can grow a plant in optimal conditions and no matter what if you fuck up drying and curing its fucked. Yo thanks Green Majic.

I normally dry for like 5 days atleast and then throw them in glass jars. Burp once every 24 hours. I've noticed it takes quite a bit of time for the smoke to accutally smell like weed without smelling your fingers. I don't know if I'm not flushing long enough drying to long or what but past two grows I've ran into this. I am about to chop in oh say a week or so and have been flushing for about a week. No burns this grow so hopefully the taste and overall smell will be much better for me. Your ak48 looks decent for no nutrients the whole grow. I assume she pretty much ate up all the mg nutrients by the time flowering came around. Anyways next go around get you some nutrients.

Next Grow I will do all FF soil and nutes. Getting a 600W MH/HPS to replace the CFL's and I already have a grow room for 9 new seeds (6 AK and 3 Power Skunk). Going to give my girls (I have one Power Skunk too) two more weeks but giving them molassas in the watering (I only water once a week) and then do what you and haze said and hope for the best on this grow.

I will keep you both posted or you can follow my grow journal.

Aight I've been researching harvesting and curing tips cause I just harvested my GWS last night. Check out Subcool's Old School Organics sub forum and then check out the Amber Alert thread. The harvest info is on the first page and the cure info is on the Second page. Its a really great read and nice info from a pro. Anyways you starting a journal for your new setup? It sounds mighty nice you should be pulling in som big time weight now.
