TAMPA - Almost $1 million worth of marijuana was seized Tuesday from an indoor grow operation at a Valrico home, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies say.

Deputies arrested Gilberto Alvarez Jr., 44, of 2014 East Lumsden Road. He is charged with trafficking in marijuana, cultivation of marijuana and theft of electricity.

Deputies found grow lights and other types of marijuana grow equipment at the home, the sheriff's office said. Eighty marijuana plants weighing 235 pounds and worth an estimated $940,000 were seized.

No fucking way 80 indoor plants can fetch $1mil.

The only way you can get even close is 2 insane assumptions....

1) He got a pound from each plant
2) He sold each pound for 10K
That gets you to $800k

No fucking way. $10 says they weighed the soil and pots too.

A pound here....goes for anywhere around 3-4K of the dank.

I know they are using "retail" still, you're not getting $10k If you sold just 1/4s - you'd have to sell them for $156.

I've never paid that much. I've paid $120, but never higher.

I bet he was only getting, maybe, 4 oz off each plant.

235 lbs into 740K equals 4K an lb or 250 an Oz. That's assuming of course they got a lb of saleable pot from each plant. I'm more inclined to believe they got less, although I averaged 12-17 OZs of dried bud from my WW plants. Those puppies are very prolific indeed. 250 an oz for White widow is a bargain, agreed?

The cops over-inflate what the weed is worth so it looks like it is a way more major bust than was it actually was. They have to at least make it look like the weed was worth more money than what they spent on the bust. Now wouldn't they look like assholes if they came out and said "steet value of the marijuana was $5000"?

This story got me interested. So I googled marijuana and searched news.

In the first 10 pages there must have been a grow-op bust on every page - all from the new year.

bicycle cops out looking for grafiitti? Were they going to arrest the graffitti? It sounds like a really lame cover story. If my kid came home late with a lame story like that I'd tell him to try again...........

lol right lets do some math...

20 police involved total

average of a weeks worth of pay for each of those for the work/inv/court

lets just say its average $35 per hour of pay. low man up average

thats 40hrs each @ $35hr= $1400 x 20 Government/state employees= $28,000 in man hour pay! not including ANYTHING else needed. i may be way off but i think im close

i can drive down the street and buy a pound for $1000-$2000.in theory a bust under 14lbs would be a waste of $. so is this why our country is in debt? i hope Obama reads this

Twice here in Colorado the cops busted medical growers and destroyed their crops, twice the counties got sued for the value the DEA puts on plants, over $5000 a plant. Nice to see this shit start to backfire on the real criminals.

Its like how the DEA went after Marc Emory... sell 10,000 seeds at $3,000 per plant..and with THAT math you're on the top 10 wanted drug guys... all over seeds.... don't matter 1/2 were no good or males..
