8th week of flowering, first grow, look at pics, any advice?

hey all, this is my first grow, have three plants, one is currently 6 months old and the other two are 16weeks. I started flowering 8 weeks ago as I started 13/11. I have them on 12/12 now and plan to get down to 10/14 and finish like that for a week before I put them in the dark for 3 days. Any advice would be great for this is my first time growing..... anything. Also I used seeds from random sacks over the years so any comments on the strain or its over all looks, would be much appreciated. These first pics are the 5th week of flowering and the next are 8th week. Thanks

My advice is to throw out your expected harvest time based on weeks and go by the looks of the plant. They appear healthy. As far as strain, noone will be able to tell you what it is. So many crosses these days. They do appear to be heavy on the sativa side too, so that means a long finish time.

when you say throw out expected harvest time and look at the plant, are you talking about the trichomes changing from clear to milky to amber? If not the what do you mean and what do you think about my plants and how long they still need?

Ahhhh. There we go. That looks more like an 8 week sativa. Looking very good. Be patient and vigilant. Do not chop to early. Not seeing in person and going on pictures alone, I think you still have some time left. Guessing between 6-8 weeks.

I usually tell new people to go by trich color. Veterans just know when they are done. Pistils start to recede buds swell and take on a frosty color (from the trichs) or amber hue. Best for new growers to go by trich color though. After a few (or a dozen) grows, you sorta just "know" when they are done. When I first said to toss out expected times, there was only the one post all showing you at 5 weeks, but mentioned 8 weeks. Based on the pics, I didn't see an 8 weeks plant. As a rule I never listen to a breeders claim on finish time. A plant is done when it's done. Kinda like good BBQ.

What kind of light do you have? Those buds are very small. I would say it has a good month to go. By the way, flowering time and time on 12/12 are not the same. It takes at least a week on 12/12 for flowering to begin. So you are really at 6-7 weeks of flowering. And a sativa can easily take 10-12 weeks.

I seeded the Sativas with CFLs untill I got my light, 400watt digital, dimmable, HPS or MH compatible. They started to show sex around mid October at about 8wks old so I switched to HPS and went 12/12. Also those two sativas are actually hermies in which I clipped off their pollen sacks as they developed and have clipped of some bottom buds that were consumed with seeds so my plants wouldn't have to waste the energy making seeds, besides a couple of those buds the seeds didn't turn out bad. The bushy indica looking one has a couple of seeds but not many at all, I dropped one of those pollen sacks with the tweezers and I knew I'd end up with some seeds hahaha

According to breeders and seed companies, the start of the flowering period is measured from when the light is first changed to 12/12, not when the first flowers show.

Looks like it needs a few more weeks.

thanks everyone for your input, I'll post more pics in two weeks when hopefully I'm harvesting, also the trichome colors, for a sativa to be ready is when about what.... 10% of the trics turn amber??? I know that the amber is more for a sedative high and that you want mostly milky when you are growing sativa. Then the Indica is when the trics are about 50-60% amber???
