They were not easy years. You have to understand, I was raised in a lovely neighborhood, as was Mitt, and at BYU, we moved into a $62-a-month basement apartment with a cement floor and lived there two years as students with no income. It was tiny. And I didn’t have money to carpet the floor. But you can get remnants, samples, so I glued them together, all different colors. It looked awful, but it was carpeting.
We were happy, studying hard. Neither one of us had a job, because Mitt had enough of an investment from stock that we could sell off a little at a time. The stock came from Mitt’s father. When he took over American Motors, the stock was worth nothing. But he invested Mitt’s birthday money year to year—it wasn’t much, a few thousand, but he put it into American Motors because he believed in himself. Five years later, stock that had been $6 a share was $96 and Mitt cashed it so we could live and pay for education.
Mitt and I walked to class together, shared housekeeping, had a lot of pasta and tuna fish and learned hard lessons.

Not necessarily. I have had bosses that would KILL me. I determined that in order to get ahead I would be there whenever my boss was. Here is a hint for working folks who want to get ahead. NEVER EVER work for a boss that does not like his home life, does not like his kids, does not like his wife. These are bosses that will find every reason possible to be at work rather than go home and they will either expect you to be there or they will pass you up for promotion and raise if they don't see you there whenever they are.
Only work for people with an active and happy home life - the worst that can happen is that they will begin to depend upon you to take the helm when they are gone - not such a bad thing in the end.
I don't approve of employees claiming that their bosses don't work as hard as they do, i have rarely found that to be true (although as a boss, I certainly don't - what I DO do is worry. My employees could always leave their concerns in the parking lot, I took them home.

That's right. A boss. The management. I am. It is, by nature, a completely different job from the indvidual contributor on one of the teams. I report to some crazy ass VPs., So if you think you have problems and are a trod upon, worker bee, you have no idea what I do day to day to make sure you have and keep that job.
What the worker bees don't want to know, they don't need to know.
It's a jungle of bad vibes and stink eye; damn do, damn don't, WORRY. The sorting of the bad from the stupid. Trying to find a better choice. You get to hear it all and defend any worth you think there is, or some times give in.

I can tell you we carefully cultivate that. It is our only power. I am not on their teams, I don't do anything as far as they are concerned. They think I'm stupid and they have to pull me along. It's true. I'm just a poor country manager, don' know shit. Aw shucks.
They work for their buddies and I am seen, and not heard. I work very hard to be the mascot, cheerleader.
The VPs however, treat me like the dog they truly see me as. Fetch, guard... good boy. The teams just jeer me for this as well.

In the cases where they don't, they still don't get paid as much.
I propose a scale where the highest paid person cant make x times more than the lowest paid person in the same company. Im sure someone can come up with an algorithm that could divide profits for maximum financial benefit to both shareholder, worker, and company. Why should Jamie Dimon make 10 million while the tellers make $14/hr and customers pay for ridiculous bank fees and poor security?

Why in the hell someone would even dream of starting a business when government dictates the wages you pay your empolyees, the hours they work, the raises they get, the healthcare they get, and if you dare make a profit despite all of that you are going to fork over more than 1/2 of it to the government for the privilege is beyond me...

Wait a second how do raising banking fees and getting bailed out by the federal government make you a good CEO? It preserves the status quo but doesnt benefit anyone but the bank and its shareholders.

Business has turned into sports. Your best player/product draws a lot of fans and customers, so your best player demands more money, the owner doesn't want to make any less money paying him so they just raise prices on the fans.
These overpaid CEOs arent doing anything innovative AT ALL to deserve the money they are being paid. They are making money through cost cutting of their employee benefits, wages, and product quality. Who picks up the difference? The government.
You cant have it both ways. You cant screw employees out of a fair wage and not think it will take a toll on infrastructure. People want to blame the state of this country on immigrants HAHAHAHAAHAH!
