a basic grow

Hello, i just have a few questions about my setup




1. Could an outlet adapter like these work with a 6500k cfl bulb ?

2. what kind of reflective material should i use in my grow box? have heard tin foil would be a big mistake.

3.what kind of soil should i use if miracle grow isn't recommended?

1.) dunno what they are ? and what kind of bulb ? normal bulbs use E27 or E40 fittings I believe ?

2.) your right, tin foil don't reflect that good and might create hot spots, so either buy a few meters of Maylor or get a emergency blanket/ice cover for car windows (silver stuff)

3.) most importent when you pick the soil is to get some with the right PH for cannabis, PH should be between 6 and 7 not like some chap soils that have to much peetmoss and have a to acid environment for cannabis with a PH on 5-6

beside that cannabis like a light and airy soil, so stuff like Perlite, coco, hydro/lega stones are all great things to add to your mix, if you cant get a bag of Ffof or Plagron or Biobizz etc. and only option is the local "Walmart" you should go for a seedling soil (no or very little nutrients)

I believe the reason why Ppl. dislike MG soil (no experience) is the fact that it keep to many nuts in a wrong mix for cannabis, so go for the no fertilized bag and provide the nutrients your self in the water

a bag of MG perlite (non fertilized) and a bag of seedling soil, would make a nice mix for a basic soil then you just need some liquid nutes for Veg/bloom

but they just allow you to plug a light bulb strait into the outlet but my question is would just any one of them work with the bulb or is there anything specific i should get

they should work fine Im sure, but look in to Y-splits if your serious about useing CFLs

Wouldnt that be to much for just one plant though?

hehe yea, well in general when it comes to light, the more the better, but yes, a bit to much for a seedling, one 23W would be plenty, both to cover the small seedling and in form of light strength, but weed is a light loveing plant, so it wont go long (if you do your part right) before it will need more, a few 6500K 23W could probably Veg a nice size plant, once in flowering it will need much more light (3x the amount as in Veg) and in a different colors/kelvin (2700K)


if it was me that should grow one plant under CFLs only, I would use one like that to start with, and grow the seedling in to a small Veg plant, then add one more

and I would for sure train the plant (CFLs need to be close to provide good light, 2-4 inch`s)

once in flowering I would add a few 2700K to the mix so I maybe ended up with 2x6500K and 3x2700K as a minimum for one small plant

Hmmm so say my grow box is a little smaller that the average pc tower, i coat the inside with reflective materials would 1x6500k and 2x2700k work?

work, sure, you can grow a tiny plant that yield between nothing and a Oz depending on how you did, so if that is the goal it will surely work

use the 6500K now, once it cant cover all of the plant add one of the 2700K and consider to switch to 12/12, once in flowering add the other 2700K and use all 3 to finish it with, and do some research about LST training and scrog that is IMO the trick to yield the Oz instead of nothing with CFLs as you need them Bud sites up close to the light in the end

and some form of DIY reflector for them bulbs would be a good idea to get the most out of them

If you plan to grow auto strains then your have results alot sooner than you will with regular seeds.

I looked it up and its basically growing your plant so that that light hits different nodes correct? thanks for all the info btw

i had looked into auto but i would rather be able to veg the plant a bit longer that usual

I can understand that, I only recently found out that some of the seeds i bought are not actually autos. So when my current auto BLue Mistic grows finished i have the choice of more twin auto growing OR i can try my hand at using my normal femmed Kaia kush seeds.

SO which seeds are you looking to use to kick start your growing adventures?
