A Guide To Colloidal Silver

I have red that mixing these two together is quite dangerous as it is very toxic, can you please tell me what you know about making STS and any danger involved using these products

The only thing dangerous about it is if you mix it or spray it over a beige Formica countertop and get purple stains all over it. Then the lady of the house might smack you in the head. At least from my experience that's the only danger.

Hey guys I'm a noob when it comes to using colloidal silver. Wondering how it really works. Question #1
Does it just make pollen sacs(nanners) on plant or actual seeds manifest?
Question #2
Can I do a partial harvest then spray it on lower bud sites with early bloom hairs?
Any help is appreciated.

I heard this dude has some STS kits available :bigjoint:

You can't rely on a TDS pen to give the right reading. I bought a new one that reads in 1ppm increments as my old Hanna is a 10X which is fine for nutes but not near fine enough for CS. I run my CS until I get a 6 or 7ppm reading which according to a couple sites you multiply by 2 or 2.5X to have a close approximation so I consider mine to be about 15ppm. Totally clear and like I said there is no sediment on the bottom of the jug from the gallon batch I made in May 2015. Almost out so time to dig out the gear and make some more. Wife feeds it to the chickens and uses it on their wounds and ours too.

I cut a Canadian silver dollar in half and attached each half at the end of a 6" silver wire and just submerge the lower portions of the coins in the distilled water. All the silver is .9999 pure and I buy gallon jugs of distilled water at the drug store making sure it's not the brand that has fluoride in it. Reads 0 or 1 with the TDS pen when I test it. I diluted 1000ppm test sol'n down to 20ppm and the pen reads 19 or 20 when I check it so I know everything is pretty darned accurate.

I run the CS thru an unbleached coffee filter to get all the particles out. Saving all the used filters until I figure out some use for the bits in it. Bandages maybe?

So for flipping plants a reading of only 6-7ppm worked for you? Spraying 2x a day?

I never used my CS to flip a plant. I found out about STS and went with that. Took ages to source the sodium thiosulfate and had to make my own silver nitrate but that worked really well and was much easier. Spray 4 days before flipping to 12/12, (either just a branch or a whole plant), then every 4 days for a total of 4 sprays or until you see male flowers starting to form. 7 out of 7 tries got me lots of pollen.

Both those chemicals are easy to find in the US at sites like amazon but not here in Canada.

Do you have to wear gloves when spraying or be careful where you spray that?

It stains dark brown on fabrics if you don't clean it immediately. You SHOULD wear a mask and gloves, but you will be okay without if the sts spray is the last thing you do in your tent/space before closing it up.

I'd usually wear a latex glove on my left hand at least if not both and maybe a dust mask to avoid inhaling any mist if there was a lot to spray. Same thing when spraying for bugs using insecticidal soap. Not toxic and won't stain your skin like CS or STS but irritating to the throat and nose.

You don't want overspray on stuff or other plants so best to take the one you want to spray somewhere else. If you just want to spray a branch put a plastic bag over the whole plant and make a slit to pull the target branch through. A loose twist tie around the stem to close the slit and she's good to go. Remove fan leaves and just hit the budsites to save on sol'n. I add a couple drops of Blue Dawn to my 500ml bottle of STS so it sticks and spreads better. No fans! You want to leave it in a dark space with no ventilation so the sol'n stays wet longer and has more time to absorb. PITA id using CS and having to spray often.

You could always throw a bedsheet over other plants and spray right after lights out. Wait an hour for any mist to settle then take the sheet off and just leave them as usual. I'll plug my oscillating fan into the power bar that is plugged into my timer so the fan comes on when the light does.

Good luck!
