I am using an AeroGarden, a shit load of 42W CFL's and Foxfarm GrowBig Nutes. My babies are less than three weeks old and they are doing great. The thing is, they are the bushiest plants i have ever grown they seem to be growing out way more than up. I have CFL's all the way around the AG as well as extra bulbs in the top. My question is, should i keep the bulbs really close or move them up further so they will stretch a little? Also does a purple stem always mean the plant is female or is that bullshit? Every one of the plants have purple stems and the branches are also purple. By the way my light cycle is 18/6. I top off the water daily and do a full rez change every two weeks. I'm pretty sure i have too many plants in this thing but they all look so good that i don't wanna get rid of any. The number of plants doesn't seem to be hindering them but the rez is getting full of roots and i mean FULL!! I also have two airstones in with them. Sorry for the long post. Should i stretch them or :confused:not?

dude thats normal.thats how hydro grows.the idea is to keep the light close as possible before the tips start curling. i would recommend a 400 watt HID setup. it might sound like alot but you will end up paying more in the long run....fa sho.but yea keeep the light as close as you can.
happy growings

You might have problems growing those plants big, the roots are going to knit themselves together so that when you are finally forced to move some plants out or have to get rid of males, you will tear up all the roots from all the plants getting them out. The purple of the stems could mean the temps in the grow room are a bit off, or it may just be the plant, it by no means is an indicator of sex. You don't want to stretch them, instead you can just cut off all growth on the bottom 3rd of the plant, cut off stems, leaves and all. this will cause the plant to try and grow just the main cola and won't be so hard to get the light to the bottoms, which don't really produce much under CFL anyway.

hope this helps

Thanks for the help guys. Reef i don't think i have a nute deficiency as i have a little nute burn on some of the leaves. I don't know what to do about having too many plants, the roots are probably already tangled. This is my first Hydro grow so i guess ill just ride it out and see what happens. When is the earliest i can switch to flowering? As for the temps maybe being off, im not sure i have a box fan blowing full speed on them 24/7 should i have the fan turn off with the lights? I want to post pics of my setup cause i know it would help you guys help me but im not too sure about posting pics on the internet.
